Hard cast vs: fmj/plated

Have you thought about casting your own? I have found that casting is just as fun as the rest of the reloading aspect, and I save even more for more shooting. I am loading a box of 50 for my 45 right at $2.45. But I do get my lead for free for now.

I think like some of the others have said, the 45 loves a cast bullet. If you can buy them at an acceptable price then I would go for it.

I would cast my own but I live WAY out in the middle of nowhere so I think finding material to melt down might be a bit hard. I'm going to order up 1000 MBC 230's and play with them. Right now I'm in the middle of setting up my new Dillon 650 so once I get that dialed in it's play time. Now I just have to find a place to shoot where I don'e have to worry about starting a fire.
We have had two fires start here local due to shooting so far this fire season. First time in 40+ years of being around shooting that I have ever seen fires start from shooting.

Anybody have any favorite starting point for the MBC 230 RN using Unique or 231?

All I shoot in revolvers and 45ACP are cast. Mostly Missouri Bullet Co. And THE most accurate load in my Glock 17?...Missouri 125 truncated cones with an appropriate load of AA5...with a stock barrel. Yeah Yeah, you're "not supposed to do that" :) Whatever...no leading and I do clean the barrel every 100 shots or so.

I load 6 grains of Unique under a 230 grain bullet. It shoots very well at about 800 fps.

If you think you may be interested in casting later I would start looking for Wheel weights now and they are becoming hard to find.

It pretty fun to cast load and shoot a bullet that you made. Plus right now with unique it is costing me about 2.45 per box of 50. That's really nice.

I am still great full to have friend who has a 55gal drum full of wheel weights. He gave me a five gallon bucket last time I was there. I am about to make ingots out of those and go back for more. The best thing is that he does not charge me for the lead. Other wise I think I might be looking to buy lead, and that would be sad.
