I've basically concluded my first handgun purchase to either a SIG P226 or a P229. Most likley .357 SIG, if I can get a rail I most definetly will, same goes for Two-Tone. Input?

Uh, what is it FOR?

P229 is more compact for carry than P226 which has more butt and sight radius for easier shooting. Two tone is cosmetics, your call if they will sell you one. Rail, ok if you need a searchlight, but I don't know how many SIG Sauers are available with them.

Do you have an ammo budget for .357 SIG? It costs a good deal more than 9mm econo-ball, don't know how it compares with .40.

First handgun purchase? VERY first?
.357 SIG has the loudest blast of any service pistol, close to comped Super, and appreciable recoil. Not what I would recommend to learn on.

I agree. The .357 SIG is not a good choice for a 1st gun. But hey, it's your decision.

This is America. Buy what you like.

Sigs are high-quality weapons & .357Sig is a smoker.

I would, however, take a looksee at what el cheapo target ammo is locally available before pulling the trigger on your sale.

Taking myself for example, I generally shoot milsurp rifles for which I can get super-cheap milsurp ammo. Then my wife falls in love with a lever gun in .44mag. Buying the rifle was the easy part. Feeding the gun would cause me to squeal like a stuck pig. I finally started to take up hand loading because of the cost of .44mag.

There ain't no shame in buying a gun you can feed regularly and shoot easily.

I have both, a two-tone P226 (9mm) and a two-tone P229 .357Sig. I prefer the size and balance of the P229 (and the .357Sig caliber). While I can't compare the .357Sig in both models, since my 226 is a 9mm, I'm confident I'd still prefer the P229 even if the caliber was a non-issue. Be it for carry or for home/range work, my pick would be the P229. For me, it has the perfect feel and fit; it's by far my favorite Sig.
