20 or so years ago I had a buddy show up for a turkey hunt with a brand new 12g 3 1/2" gun. I had never even heard of them at the time and was still using 2 3/4" #4 or #5 shot, quite successfully, for turkey but of course I had to shoot his gun. I shot it once handed it back to him and vowed to never again shoot anything that brutal. And that was back when I was young and not at all recoil sensitive. I don't know what type of gun or what type of shells because I think I have blocked that out of my memory.

As I have gotten older I have become MUCH more recoil senistive but I did buy a Beretta A391 Extrema2 and I can say that shooting steel shot on a duck hunt is much more comfortable than even a 2 3/4" turkey load. I plan to use it for turkey next year and will call with the name of the surgeon I use.

I'll see that your buddy and his shoulder are on our prayer list at church. If it kicks more'n a 3" slug, I don't think I really wanna deal with it.

I think it is Remington that puts out a 3 inch waterfowl load that does 1700 fps. Shot some of those through an 835 and recoil was still pretty sporty.

Just looked at the box. Its Remington hypersonic steel. Have fun.

I think 3" Nitro mags copper plated BB from the early 80's, 2 oz. loads @ 1300 fps. Those were extremely painful to shoot, but man they would reach out and knock down gobbs out to 50 yds. with little problem. I bought a bunch of boxes of them for future turkey hunts back then, and good thing I did, cause I haven't seen them around since, everything else, but no 3" copper plated BB Nitro Mag..

This was just for fun, but...
The first time I handed my SxS 12ga. to my (older) brother with #5 turkey loads, he asked 'do you ever pull both triggers at once?' - I said 'sure, all the time...'
I still remember the slobber jerking out of his mouth as his head spun! Ahh.. good times... :D
