Has anyone found GOOD stripper clips for the M44?

I went to a gun show a couple weeks ago and picked up some M44 stripper clips (in addition to a butt-load of ammo ). Anyway, I can't get the stupid things to work right. It's easier to load the gun round by round then use those things.

Has anyone found stripper clips that work right for the M44?

The Tikka ones are supposed to be the best. Tickbite has them for cheap. I don't have first-hand experience with them, though.

Even then I think I heard that some "Tikka" strippers are in fact repros themselves.

I read a thread on here from awhile ago that stated the "trick" to using any Mosin stripper, repro or original, was to lift the tip of the top cartridge up a little with your index finger as you pressed down directly near the base with your thumb.

I have a stack of Izhevsks that work well. They came off Russian 7.62x54r ammo I picked up ten years ago.

Look for the arsenal mark on the back. No mark means they are likely the ones that were supposedly copied from the SVT38/40 clips, which do not work well in Mosins.

i bought a bunch of Tikka's from tickbite a year ago. they work great. original military ones ( most countries atleast) work, most reproductions do not.

i suggest the Tikka's

i know how you feel, i have some strippers for my m38 (same as your but no pig sticker) and the stripper clips took longer to load then loading one by one. i don't know if its just me but i cant seem to get them to work at all, how ever it does allow you to grab the 5 rounds the rifle takes instead of counting as you put them in

ya, cosmoline is right, i had the same problem, then realized that the rims were hanging up on each other, that would really suck to have happen in the heat of battle!

I've got Chinese, Russian, Finn, and no-name that all work. It's the shape that matters most- Left is best, middle works okay, and right are crap.

And I can't repeat this enough- if you're getting rim-jams, your interruptor is screwed up and needs either cleaning, a stronger spring, or replacement. You should NEVER get rim-jams with a properly maintained Mosin.

Just a question, what is red tip ammo? I have a bunch of the yellow and silver, but one crate came in red tip....

Eh, we need pics. There is some Russian with red tips that denote explosive rounds and are NOT for Mosins, but rather are for aircraft machine guns and are very high pressure.

They're new production steel and seem to work well enough. I bought the 20 quantity to get the 20cent savings. 85 cents a piece, which I can live with.

Be sure to select the number at the bottom. The one just below the picture is a different model number. You want the 292270A

+1 on Cosmoline's method. I had all kinds of problems until I realized that I had to overlap the rims.

All of my strippers look like Vaarok's "left" one.

I have a bunch of the cheap brass repro stripper clips that I bought off eBay for something like $8/10 quite a ways back - I could never get them to work and they were relegated to a box in my closet with a bunch of other junk... until Cosmo posted picture tutorial.

Ever since, using that technique (lifting the first round at an angle, then pushing on its base, using it to push the rest of the rounds in) has worked like a charm. It's not always smooth, but it's certainly faster than loading rounds singly.

I wouldn't say "never." You can get rim lock due to recoil combined with variation in catridge design esp. between old ball ammo and newer Scandic or Czech ammo. However it's not a bad idea to keep some fresh interruptors on hand. It's a very easy process to replace them so you can get a better pinch on the stack and keep it down away from the rim of the top round.

a good interrupter and magazine spring will keep ammo from rim locking in the rifle. i agree.

however. if the rounds shift in the clip, which some of mine do, they can lock up in the clip (ymmv)
