I have an S&W M&P 2.0 with suppressor height factory sights (white outline and white dot). Want to replace with a Trijicon fiber optic sight like I have on my G19 (black rear, red fiber front), which I shoot well with.

Have heard lots of stories about how difficult it is to remove the dovetailed front sight on the M&P 2.0-is that the case? I have an nStar VTUPRS universal sight tool that made replacing the rear sight on the G19 a breeze, but some guys recommend buying a more expensive Wheeler sight vise for the job, and even then describing the difficulty getting the job done with it.

Anybody here do this sight replacement job, and how difficult was it for you? I prefer using a sight pusher vice vs. a hammer and punch, because I want to eliminate the risk of scratching the sight and/or the FDE finish on the gun. Any special tools you recommend to get the job done?

I'm not resistant to having this done by a gunsmith if that's the most painless way to go.

Thanks in advance for the help.

I did that on a H&K USP9, I bought a sight pusher. It would only go one way if I remember right. I tried a hammer and punch on a different gun and messed it up. I don't recommend that method.

The nstar sight tool should work fine. I haven't come across a sight I couldn't change with that little rig. And that includes a dimpled, green Loctite 1911 Novak rear sight that someone never wanted to move. I bent 4 brass punches on that sight before getting the nStar.

Not the same pistol, but I changed the rear sight on a Bodyguard 2.0. Using a professional MGW pusher (I also have the NCStar and a couple others) I was certain I'd cracked the slide when the sight finally broke free-it was that violent and loud.

I doubt the NCStar or the other pushers would have accomplished it; I was actually surprised the MGW didn't fail, to be honest. Not to be negative, just for information.

FWIW My M&P 1.0 sights were VERY TIGHT. Big hammer and a couple brass punches (one broke) was the only way I found. I have a sight pusher but it wasn’t enough.
