Has the world gone crazy?

I live in a very diverse neighborhood. All races and religions and creeds. The common denominator is we are all older, retired police or military, or vet's. Even the wives get along
Years ago we formed a sort of look out for each other attitude. Also helps we have a monthly pot luck.
Visualize 3 old guy, me eating neck bones and collards, Tyrone eating lasagna and paddy, deep into a plate of Adobo, All needing napkins and bibs.
We take pride that the monthly police crime report always show nothing in our "hood"
The word has been out for a long time. We take care of our own.
We will not tolerate bad behavior.

Our county newspaper crime report "page" is mostly deer/car wreaks and the occasional break ins,(usually one meth head robbing another). Down in the college town there have been protests but no looting. There's only one gun shop/range in the town but I have not been there since I don't need to be there. This "crazy" seems to not be a universal thing,so far, and I'm OK with that.

As I mentioned in another thread. During the previous administration I learned my lesson the hard way. Would take several years of monthly shooting sessions for me to go through my entire bench stock of reloading components. I’ll weather this just fine. My friend who manages a big box sporting good store said his gun department sales are up 110% over last year. That was just before the issue took place in Minneapolis.

One of my local gun stores is on a major highway, so I routinely pass it going to/from town to get non-gun tasks done. Each day they have been opened since Covid, there has been a line out the door. The parking lot for this gun store can hold maybe 12 cars. Now I am seeing cars double and triple parked. Some customers are parking across the street and brave dashing a 4 lane highway to wait in a winding line. Gun sales are way up, no question. Just a matter of time to see if overall violence will go up as well.

It's definitely a seller's market at the moment. I put four handguns on Armslist and all four were spoken for in about two hours.

Hi...
I have been to several local gunshops in my area.
Most have good supplies of some firearms, but ARs are non-existent and full size semi auto pistols are in short supply.
I see an increase in used SA revolvers at most gun shops. Could be that people are trading in SA revolvers for hi cap pistols.
That's OK with me...I have bought four used revolvers this year.

I more or less arrived at the conclusion that people who voluntarily live in a city of more than 100K are inherently a bit crazy.

So this started a long time ago as far as I’m concerned, regardless of issues.

What’s even more interesting to me is how many populations where unrest is occurring are in various states where folks have been manipulated into allowing their rights to be legislated away. Not everywhere, but in some.

The world went crazy a long time ago. I’ve done my best over the last 20 years to remain as far on the outside as is possible in this society.

As hso points out though, this does present a good opportunity to initiate or enhance the dialogue between us, and people on the fence about guns. I am pleased to see a friend of mine recognized his poorly armed state and did something about it.

Has the world gone crazy?...

Got there at opening time 9:00AM and there was a line a mile long to get inside....

...when I got outside the line had pretty much doubled in size.

If the line when you got there was actually 5,280 feet long and 10,560 feet long when you left, the world has gone crazy.

If those numbers were exaggerated, now you know how the media tells lies that can drive people to do things that don’t make any sense. Like stand in line for hours for something you could order on line for less money, that you likely won’t use the same day anyway.

I am shocked that people on this forum (presumably well-informed gun owners) would now be rushing out to buy. We should have been well stocked before this, having learned our lessons from the panics of the past.

I agree except in my case a relative introduced me to the 6.5 Creedmoor and I fell in love with it. Went out and bought my own immediately.
Already had a 4.5 X 14 scope to use on it but I needed scope rings which is what started this thread.
Got ahold of the rings and bought a variety of factory ammo, reloading dies and some bullets.
Took her to the range today and had a blast with it. On the way home I stopped off at Bass Pro looking for some H4350.
Shelves were bare and there were no primers available, was able to get a can of Hodgden Superperformance and a box of 140gr. bullets.
Came home and got on line. Midway USA had large rifle primers they also had H4350 but I needed to buy 8lbs. No 6.5 bullets were available
Placed the order for primers and powder. Found some 120 gr. Hornady bullets at Mid South shooter supply and bought 2 boxes.
That should hold me over until this madness ends, if it ever does. Hope this isn't the new world we live in.:(

Good point and I agree about the exaggeration, my bad. Lets just say the line was at least 200 yards when I got there and grew to 400 when I left.

The only thing that affects me is the lack of gun shows, but those are mostly for entertainment anyway.

Some people here are pro gun but have few or small amounts of ammo due to jobs that don't pay a lot. Or their money is committed to home and family.

OR,.......

They are just starting out. Even those of us who've been around awhile know that it's not a cheap hobby.

Sounds like a cool neighborhood. I think I need to move.

Things didn't get crazy here.
I dropped in to my LGS to pay on a lay-away. The counter guy said that a convoy of chartered tour buses passed through a few days ago, full of a bunch of really disgruntled folk.
The reason they looked so grumpy was that they had an escort, mostly local lawyers, doctors and such on their Harleys.
The buses just kept right on going... .

Thanks for the tip Armored farmer but I kind of pride myself on never having been further south than Kankakee.
I work and exist in Illinois but I live in the UP where most of my family is, I had to go to college so I could get one of them high tech jobs that don't exist up there. The minute I retire I'm gone, no riots, no protesters and no looting in that neck of the woods.
Gun shops are well stocked because everyone already owns one.;)
I imagine it's much the same where you are and probably warmer to boot.
I know a Yooper and the pictures of his deer blind/apartment are awesome. Of course the bear raiding his bird feeder was cool too.

I feel the same way.

My wife says that hookers and blow would be cheaper.

Being an ex-sailor at a different time, age, mentality..........

The rest is open to imagination. And I agree with your wife.

LOL, that's rich coming from a wife! Love it!

I'd like to say that just like the last run, quality 40 S&W self defense ammo is available in abundance at normal price. Handguns though. They are in very short supply in any caliber.

First off... The world is and has been crazy for years.
Secondly. Just like all important aspect of life...gotta prep when you can...food, ammo etc.
Lastly during uncertain times it's a good idea to have a good understanding of your neighborhood.... abilities, attitudes, etc.

Is this what you're looking for? RMR has 140 grain in stock.

Society is definitely more crazy than any time I've seen in my 37 years on this earth.

As for those saying they're surprised any gun owner has been caught a sleep at the wheel in terms of prep, I've said it before and I'll say it again, not everyone that's into guns now was into guns in '16 or earlier.

Please, dont hold it against us. We're learning just as you all did, and believe me I have.

Still, it makes for tough times for some of us.

Political BS is part of the craziness but I believe there are a few powerful people and their propaganda machines that are causing the problems. Outright lies are now normal. Narratives that are 180dgs from the truth are rammed down our throats. It’s sickening that we are left guessing what is real or the opposite.

I read the book 1984 a few years ago. Almost every day I watch the news I see phrases like “memory hole” and “ministry of truth” coming true.
