I picked up one of these on a lark from a local Walmart.

I was 130 out the door and took it out for some fun. Point shooting bird shot is a real laugh, no recoil at all and tons of fun.

I tried some speciality 410 handgun ammo, the Hornady 41 caliber slug and two buck shot rounds really picked up steam with the long barrel 24 inches I think. My reactive target shot about twenty feet in the air !

Nicely attended wood fixtures, walnut I think.

I tried regular buck shot from herters. No load exhibits any actual recoil.

Nice looking, lots of fun. Once I decided it was a keeper I picked up an elastic shell holder for the stock.

Store bird shot, buckshot, critical defense.

Lots of value here for me. A simple system any household member can effectively use.

Like it enough I picked up a 22lr insert. Hatfield doesn't auto eject. Only had time to run a handful of 22s at some plates 20 yards out. Rang it every time without effort, so plenty of cheap shooting and some added versatility. Set me back about 40 I think.

I'm looking at a variety of caliber inserts now. Watching one on ebay, a ten inch barrel 380 insert. To me it would be a cheaper slug option and the rifled ten inch insert plus the rest of the 410 barrel might give the little 380 some steam.

Haven't pulled the trigger, would prefer a 9mm or 38/357 insert for a little more versatility.

Anyway, just a brief little review. I enjoy the single shot 410. My friend has had the 12 gauge for decades and says the recoil is not pleasant. Never shot it myself and recoil can be subjective.

Everyone has a great time with the 410. I am thinking about the 20 gauge.

Sometimes you can't place a value on a very simple and safe system.

The 410 single shot and Ruger Wrangler sure have been a hit with new shooters.

My 9 year old can safely handle both and load/unload the wrangler without issue, loves plinking out at ten yards- I wouldn't wanna be standing out there with bad intentions!

i prefer the h&r/nef singles because they autoeject spent rounds, can be run quite fast for defensive purposes. for me, only 20ga and 410 for softer recoil. a 20”, 20ga h&r loaded with #5 gameshot sleeps under my bed.

i also have a turkish-made folding single in 410; it doesn’t autoeject but it can be handily secured in a nondescript gym bag making it a legal almost anyplace in the usa or canada car trunk gun. it likes the 410 handgun rounds.
