Massad posted about this a week or so ago, as I'm sure someone here has already pointed out. He supposedly did it with a shotgun at some sort of skeet/sporting clays/traps range by resting the barrel of his "unloaded" gun on his toe. Sadly I have seen tons of people doing this, simply stupidity.

All guns are always loaded.

Can't be true -- everyone knows birdshot is harmless

only out of a .410 for home defense
as clearly stated in SO MANY threads about the matter

but to the oh so threatening foot its aparently devistating

I read on another forum that the guy was shooting trap and had the muzzle rested on his foot. At some point he forgot you aren't supposed to pull the trigger.

Yeah, as far as I heard that is what happened to this guy. Its actually a very common view on the clay range to see someone put his muzzle on the top of his foot. Never a smart thing to do in my opinion...

i have found some clay shooters to be know its all's. not saying this one was but he sure seems like a dumb@ss.

Muzzel on your foot???? Depends on what type of gun you're shooting. I do it sometimes with an over/under but their open and easy to see not loaded, a semi auto....NOT!!!! Too many places for a shell to hide and bite you......

People can be so stupid

After a motorcycle accident, I spent some time in the hospital with a man that had shot himself in the foot for the second time while hunting.

Funny thing about that is working at a hospital in an emergency room I saw a whole lot more people come in from motorcycle accidents than from gunshot wounds. I saw a whole lot more people die from motorcycle related injuries than from gunshot wounds. I have seen several amputations as a result of road rash infection. Here in Pocatello, Idaho and the surrounding area there are a lot more guns than motorcycles. I am of the personal opinion that it is stupid to shoot yourself in the hand when cleaning your gun but even more stupid to get on a motorcycle and drive around town. That said, they sure are fun though. :D

The hole in the boot is much too small to come from a shotgun. At an inch range, the size of the hole would be the size of the barrel. I believe a .45.

I sure wouldn't want to be in their shoes, that's for sure!

Or at least one of them...

Unfortunately, stupidity is part of the human condition. We all have lapses in judgment. This is why stupidity is supposed to be painful. Hopefully, it is a mistake he'll only make once.

My uncle did it better. He took his right big toe off with a well-corroded .58 slug. Infection and loss of circulation took the one beside it. In fact, the doctors did well to save the leg.

The sad thing is, he had just taken the old relic from me "for my safety". Hey, I was about six years old and could barely lift that monster.

foot shot

Just to show anyone can forget, have family member who WAS an LEO, ANSWERING A FAMILY CALL, new shotgun and exited the patrol car and "somehow" barrel was pointing at his foot, finger on the trigger, half dollor hole in upper arch! Needless to say, no more patrol duty and later just resigned due to constant pain! Split second forgetfullness and a carreer wasted.

1. Treat all firearms as if they are loaded.

2. Never point a firearm at anything you don't intend to shoot.

Here is proof of why these are the 2 basic rules of firearm safety. Any questions?
