Have you ever actually shot someone?

Yeah his name was "Winchester Scoring Target." I've since executed his entire family line that also came with him in plastic wrap. I think his kind tend to reproduce in some nest called "Walmart." I crumbled up all the bodies and dumped them in a trash can. Whole experience only cost me a few bucks. :)

Your Question To Some Here Is "VERY" Personal..

It's been discussed before. Most people who have had to kill someone, in self defense, in the line of duty or in war, won't necessarily just blurt out all the details.

In my case, it was war. No legal headache, but I did face an inquiry, which I gather is SOP. A little guilt, but that passed. In that fire fight, several were killed, several were injured and a few got away.

In my case.. USAF_Vet said it all. Need I say more?

Single Action Six (Vietnam Vet 64-67)

I haven't shot anyone. However, I was once forced to fight in a self defense situation. That was the moment I decided that I'd get a gun rather than let myself be nearly helpless in the face of mortal danger again. Using a steak knife you were cooking with to fight off a home invasion is not fun.

Yes... and I don't mind talking about it.

In 1975 I was working nights in a convenience store to pay college tuition. Just before 11PM a young man walked in and pointed a 22 revolver (typical SNS) at me demanding money. I gave him the cash (and then he wanted my watch and diamond ring). As he was ready to leave a car pulled up. He turned to face the door with the gun in his hand and I feared he might shoot one of the people approaching the front door. So I grabbed my Colt 1911 and shot him in the chest.

He ran. So much for the manstopping power of the 45 ACP. I put three more rounds in him as he cleared the door. He collapsed about 50 feet away in the parking lot having bled out (first round took the heart).

Cops thanked me. He was wanted for a string of violent robberies in which a couple victims had been sent to the hospital. I was interviewed at PHQ and my gun was returned after test rounds were fired. Grand jury ruled it self defense.

I got my watch back from cops at the scene. Some observer bagged my ring and I never saw it again. Store manager fired me. Dead criminal's brother called to threaten me. I invited him to meet me at his convenience and the calls stopped.

Still have the Colt.

I've never had to, and I hope I never will.
While taking the ccw course, the instructor suggested that everyone hire a lawyer on retention, most time being around $2500.00,and if the time ever comes that you have to take anothers life in self defense situation, call 911 and tell them there's been a shooting and to send ambulance and police to your location, then hang up. when the police arrive, tell them nothing, except that your in a state of shock and that you need to consult with your attorney before making a statement.
the reason for that is that "everything you say can and will be used against you".

Generally not good advice for one who will try to justify a shooting as self defense.

See this for why.
