No. I live in Arkansas. Folks with guns are pretty commonplace. With that said, I do know a few non-gun-owning folks. I won't call them anti-gun, because most of them don't mind my owning guns. They just don't want any themselves.

Very few people know about my interest in firearms. I don't hide it, but I don't really advertise either.

So, the only time that people have expressed an opinion about things in which I am interested, is when I open my mouth.

You mopping up what I'm spilling?

I have just heard the usual, "Why do you need a gun?". My experience has been that even most people who don't have or aren't into guns, have a curiosity about them and shooting. But, there are always those who you could never change their minds that guns are evil and dangerous. Mark

Yes and I worked with them and won some of them over to our side. But YMMV.

Even casually talking about shooting or various guns has gotten labeled a "gun nut" at work so I don't say anything about the topic (there) any more.

No, but after seeing all of the guns that I own one guy asked me what I was afraid of ... and I responded (all together now),

    "Not a damned thing."

Careful there. Recent studies have documented that chimpanzees, bonobos, and even parrots have been observed not only using but making THEN using "tools".
Now, as the late Dr. Louis Leakey once said, "Now we must redefine 'tool', redefine 'use', or redefine 'man'."

I have but since I am actually crazy, insane AND paranoid I don't take it personal. Admittedly my situation may be different from most.

    Are you lookin' at me?:scrutiny:

to answer OP, yes. when I was laid off from a job in the past everyone else in my section was allowed to walk out with their belongings in a box. I was escorted out by security and my boss cleaned out my desk for me as to prevent an 'incident' from happening. I was told the NRA sticker on my old vehicle was to blame.

Not because I own guns, but my daughter thinks I'm crazy because I have so many.

Just laugh it off, my friends all call me the "crazy gun guy" but more than half of them own deer rifles.

I'm a big fan of not giving a poo about what other people think about me. I do what makes me happy.

    I forget where I read or heard the response to being paranoid for carrying a gun...went something like this;

    You carry a pistol?
    Yes I do.
    You must really be paranoid!
    No...if I was paranoid I would carry a shotgun!
    ;)

A lot of friends and families make comments in jest about preparing for the end of the world and what not.

On the other hand, i've met quite a few gun nuts who i found to be paranoid and delusional. I run into quite a few every time i go to the gun show. I've seen a few here as well. But it ain't the passion for guns that has led me to form that opinion of them.

I usually tell people who I don't really know who ask why I have guns that I like to target shoot and be able to protect my family. After I get to know them a bit I generally offer a range trip.

Also to anyone who says something to the effect that I like violence because I own guns, I respond with 'that's like saying you have car insurance so you like to get into accidents.'

When someone says 'I think guns should be banned' I say 'yes I agree, the military and police should not have guns' when they say 'well the military and police should' I say 'so you're not anti-gun you're just pro elitist.'

    It's a double standard, isn't it?:D An "eccentric" with guns is a "gun-nut", but a non-gun owning "eccentric" is merely a "crackpot".

I suppose it's too much to ask the world to recognize there's only "nuts-nuts" out there to worry about; and that what their hobbies happen to be isn't the problem, but their mental state . While probably less dangerous to society than outright crazies, I have run into a number of gun and/or knife guys at gunshows who seem to exhibit a... ...special...relationship with weapons--shall we say :uhoh:. That guy who gets finger prints all over everything on the table:scrutiny:

It does seem like it was more common to get ribbed about it in the '90's with a lot of "militia" jokes and whatnot. For the last decade I don't think I've heard a single serious negative comment. I've made a lot of converts along the way just by keeping cool and being a positive example. I've found that many "antis" may secretly want to own firearms but feel socially pressured to disavow them. You just may be the permission they are looking for.
