Have You Ever: misplaced/can’t find/forgot about/ or lost a gun?

Have a friend that looked for months for a 700 Remington in .220 Swift. Finally found one, went to put it away, and already had one in the safe. He never did remember when he got the first one

I was Field dressing a deer and leaned my gun against a tree. Drove off to take the deer to hang just a few miles away. Remembered about the gun, but not worried as it’s private property.

Went back and it’s gone. Couple minutes later the guy that rents a house on the property came by and handed it to me. Wasn’t sure I’d remember it, so he took it to keep it out of the weather just in case.

Almost 30 years ago we lived in a trailer and was building our house in the back yard. There was about 2 weeks that we couldn't live in the trailer before we could move into the house, we stayed with my dad that lived down the road. Anyhow, after we got in the house and things started to settle down I went to look for my Marlin 39a, I was positive that I had took it to the new house. Never could find it and I was positive that it hadn't left with the trailer when it was sold. I had assumed it somehow got mixed in with some junk and got throw out or lifted by one of the carpenters/helpers. After a couple of years my dad said something about I had a rifle in one of his closets. There it was! To this day me nor my wife remember taking the rifle to his house, but evidently I did and forgot about it. I knew I was stressed when building the house, I just didn't know how much.

I had a first-generation Charter Arms Bulldog go walkies more than twenty years ago. I've never found it. The holster is gone too.

The Safe Fairies left a set of .38 Special loading dies in exchange. I'm reasonably sure I never bought or traded for any .38 dies, yet there they are...

Along with the small “car safe”, a handgun can be in two areas of the house.

Eight handguns are in the collection.

About two or three times I’ve planned to clean a gun and after checking in the house, found it locked in the car safe.

I do not make enough money for this phenomenon to occur. Maybe some day, but I doubt it.

No, but my younger son left a Winchester 37 12 ga. under the seat of a truck he traded. :cuss:

My friend’s nephew bought a Jeep from some guy and found a paper bag wedged under a seat with $5700 in it.

Had to be drug money.....

My CRS has been limited to one holster and two S&W internal lock keys. No guns...yet. Did lose my car once when I was 21.

Had to move my safe for some basement work a while back emptying the safe I found my MIL's Lorcin 25 I thought I had sold it, I had bought her a Taurus PT25 to replace it.
Also during the move I had to get rid of a couple small range bags that I used for IDPA due to mold.
In the process I put my FN 40 magazines ( I have 6 so about $250 worth) in a pouch on the door of my safe, the other day I went looking for them and couldn't remember where I put them. Spent a couple hours franticly looking for them before the light clicked on in my head.

I found my bersa bp9cc in my tacklebag underneath my lure boxes lol. I swore someone stole it. Even had a few culprits pegged in my mind then a week ago while getting my tackle ready for walleye season i pulled out my plastic lure boxes and lo and behold there lie my dirty little 9mm one freedom pill still in the pipe. Id like to say she was not rusty but that would be a lie. I still feel dumb

Just once.

I truly have absolutely no idea where my childhood Red Ryder is. I cleaned my basement over the weekend and had hoped it would turn up, but no dice. Maybe it's at my parents? I'd sure like to have it, if it still functions it'd be fun to plink at beer cans in the back yard with my kids and my eldest's Red Ryder.

Lost a gun ..? o_O
Well, my old .410 single shot has been with my brother in California for almost 50 years so, yeah, guess it's "lost".
What I am looking for now is a camp cot and mattress that my friend returned and I have not idea where the heck I put it..? :uhoh:

A few years back I was asked by a friend,,,
If I could take a small group of Canadian relatives out shooting.

I agreed and we all met at my outdoor rifle/pistol club.

My friend brought her Bersa Thunder 22 for the group to shoot,,,
I had already brought my identical Bersa with me.

Not wanting to get the guns or magazines confused,,,
I put her gun in the trunk of my car.

When I went to get her gun to return it to her,,,
It was nowhere to be found.

I immediately drove back to the range and scoured all around the firing line,,,
I also carefully searched all around where I had parked my car.

I stripped the trunk of my car,,,
I even took out the carpet and spare tire.

That pistol was no-where to be found.

I notified the range officers to be on the lookout for it,,,
But I was afraid that someone saw it and said,,,
"Ooh! Free handgun."

I carry a man's briefcase marketed by Gun Toten Mamas,,,
gtm-155-45-min.jpg
I emptied it out but the gun wasn't in there either.

I had resigned myself to the fact I must have sat the gun on the bumper of my car,,,
And lost it on the road somewhere between the range and my friends house

After a few months went by,,,
I was about ready to order a new gun for my friend.

But one day I was sitting at my desk at work and glanced at my briefcase,,,
For some odd reason I had hung it backwards on the rack.

On the back are two horizontal zippers about 10 inches apart that go almost all the way across the briefcase,,,
It's not really a pocket but is meant to open the zippers and slide the handle of a roller suitcase through.

On a hunch I opened the zipper and there was that thin little Bersa all snuggled inside the faux pocket.
Man did I feel like an idiot but immediately remembered slipping the gun in the fake pocket,,,
So It wouldn't be bumping against the Beretta 85 I had in the briefcase holster.

My friend was delighted to get her gun back,,,
I was happy that I didn't have to buy her a new gun,,,
But more than that I was delighted that it hadn't been discovered.

For three months I had carried a firearm in an area prohibited by state law,,,
If it would have been accidentally discovered in my office,,,
I would have lost my job and damaged my pension.

I truly dodged that proverbial bullet.

I'd always wanted a Savage 24 in 22 Magnum / 20 ga. Finally found one, a fixer-upper for a good price. Cleaned it up, removed the rust, found missing parts, refinished metal and wood and was happy with it. Finally my dream had come true!

Shortly thereafter I moved and did a full inventory. I found not one, but two other 22 Mag/20 ga Savage 24s that I had bought 16 and 8 years prior.

While loading a deer into the bed of my pick-up, I leaned my shotgun against the rear tire on the passenger side. Got in the truck and drove home. Unloaded the deer and was putting my hunting gear away when i realized that the shotgun was missing. In a panic I drove back to whereIi loaded the deer and there was the shotgun in the leaves on the side of the road. Lucky for me it was dark, cause I'm sure someone would have spotted the gun on the side of the road.
My brother borrowed my Sears 12ga pump back in HS. (1974 IIRC) He came out of the slough, leaned the shotgun against the side of his pickup, drank a cup of cold coffee, ate a soggy sandwich and drove to the next hunting spot. Reached for my shotgun that wasn't there. Remembered what he did, drove back and the gun was gone.

Was my favorite pump 12ga of all time. It just fit right.:(

One of my wife's brothers owns a body shop and over the years most of the vehicles he and his wife have driven were wrecked vehicles he bought used and then repaired. In 2006 he got an F150 with only 600 miles on it. While repairing it he found a Taurus 9mm pistol in a door panel on the drivers side. On that generation or Ford truck the cover that goes over the power window controls easily pops off exposing a hidden compartment just big enough for a small handgun. He called the police, they ran the SN and it hadn't been reported stolen. They told him he could keep it.

Two years later his daughter took a job in Washington DC. He pulled a U-Haul there to help her move. They got lost and after driving by the Whitehouse the 2nd time pulling a trailer was pulled over by Secret Service. They gave him directions and sent him on his way.

But... A few weeks later after he got home he had to pull the same panel off the passenger door to repair something and found a bag of pot. Had the Secret Service used a drug dog during that stop he'd have had some serious explaining to do.

I've got a Ruger Mk III 22/45 with a Red Dot on it somewhere in the house. I can't find it though. My back, both lower and mid have been acting up and rummaging around is really not possible right now.

I found my Ruger today.

It was in the wrong safe, back of the shelf, in a case I don't remember using.

Years ago I returned to my apartment from my grandparents farm with my holstered H&R 686. The wife at that time wanted to go somewhere as soon as I walked through the door, and rather than lock up the pistol, I just tossed it where I guessed no burglar would look; the open washing machine just inside the door.
Well, you can guess what happened.
By the time we returned, I had forgotten all about tossing the pistol in the washer, the next weekend when I went to the safe, there was no pistol, and I turned the place, the truck, and my grandparents place upside down.
To her surprise and my chagrin, the wife fished it out of the washer soaking wet later that weekend after she heard something “banging around” in the machine.

A few months ago I noticed my G43 wasn’t in my nightstand. I always keep it either in my nightstand or in a small 3 shelf safe.
I went to look in the safe. Not there. What the heck? I went and looked in the big safe. Not there.
Over the next couple of days I checked the nightstand, the small safe and the big safe several times. I was convinced that our housekeeper took it. I was ready to call the cops.
I took one last look in the small safe and there it was. I still can’t explain it.

Gods bless honest people, they're so rare.

As my collection grew over the years there have been moments when I can not find a certain gun or when I even stumble across one I don’t remember buying. But I never TRULY lost a gun, they always turn up.

Yesterday I could not find my CZ 75. I fit Einstein’s definition of insanity by going through the safe many times over with the same results, no CZ. I mean, I kept that pistol in the same location since I bought it 20-25 years ago.

Well rather than wait for it to show up I became a rabid Bulldog and wouldn’t let it go. Rather than doing important things that needed tending, I spent two and a half hours going through all of the safes and special hiding places.

I finally found it in a buried range bag. I think I last shot it 4-5 years ago. Then I was WAY behind on day going forward.

I bought this before owning a CZ was “cool”. This was when CZ was the industry’s best kept secret. Pricing was in line with that of a Taurus. Then Dan Wesson bought them and immediately jacked the price up $100. Then kept going up from there.

I'm glad I'm not the only one in this boat, I routinely find guns I haven't seen in ages.

The local PD *used to* go over your car with a drug dog if you asked them to. That's one of the services they no longer provide... anyway, the first three cars I ever bought all had bags of "green, leafy substance"; the first under the back seat, which I found entirely by accident, the second in the passenger door panel, also found by accident, and the third under the driver's seat between the springs and foam, which I found because I was paranoid by then and looking for it. Someone I mentioned it to said the police would check it out with a dog if I went down there, and they did. Never found anything except loose change and fast-food wrappers in anything after that, but I'm always somewhat skittish after buying a used car.
