Do .410 factory loads still cost a small fortune? They certainly did through the ammo shortage!

$29.99 for a box of 25! Definitely expensive. Then add shipping and tax. Painful, but nobody around me (called about 4 gun stores and checked at Meijer) has .410.

Bought some HMR 17 ammo, supplies for my private range, which I had to relocate, due to neighbors working on woodlot beyond my shooting range backstop, but moved the range to relieve the neighbor's concern of possible impacts. I support the change, because I'm not the only one who has used the range and you never know... The new location brings some morning sun problems, but can work at both 100 and 200 yards...further if necessary.

This bench is one of 10 that I designed and a bunch of us made when we got approval from the Capitol City R&P club to run rimfire benchrest matches, using a multi-purpose smallbore 50 yard range at Capitol City R&P. I designed them to be movable to allow both rimfire 3P and rimfire benchrest. Recently, concrete benches have been constructed, so these nearly 20 year-old benches were surplus. This was the last one available, so I asked and obtained it!!! It's still rock-solid and the top was getting "dry", so I used some wooden deck finish to resurface it. PERFECT! The heavy-duty trash bag is used to keep my wooden stool from weather damage. When not in use, I move it under the bench for further protection.

Got the Derringer today so had to install the rosewood grips. Interesting the manual says to cock the gun before changing out the grips. 100_6587.jpg

Sort of "gun related" - I bought a SIG brand range finder at Sportsman's yesterday. It was on sale for $119.99 (reg $179.99), and I'd been considering getting one just for deer hunting in the area we'll be hunting this year. The area includes a lot of wide-open country, and I'm thinking a range finder might come in handy for that - along with my flat shooting .308 Norma Magnum, of course. ;)
Also, I'm looking at tripods. The two I'm considering (a Vanguard "Quest" and a BOG "Havoc") are both about the same price (about $85), but the Vanguard has the highest "star" ratings as far as what I could find out on the internet.
So, I'll probably buy the Vanguard unless some of you good folks can give me some advice on what to look for in a hunting tripod. All I've ever used was an MTM "Shooter's Walking Stick." And I've mostly used that as a cane (a third leg) when traversing rough terrain. I can only remember using it once as a "monopod" of sorts for shooting a distant buck.
This year is different. My wife and I have been "scouting" the area where I'll (my wife didn't draw a tag there) be hunting deer this year, and it looks like 300+ yard shots are not only possible, they're probable. My beloved .308 Norma is perfectly capable of putting a bullet where it needs to go at 300+ yards. I'm not - not without a decent rest. ;)

I bought 3 .308 de-capping and sizing pins one is to replace the one I broke and the other 2 will be on hand in case it happens again. A replacement lock stud and cutter for my Lee case length gage set. Because I lost the one I had and finally an inertial bullet puller to replace the one I broke. All of this I got on eBay for less than $50.

Ordered a new sear spring and a new long sear for my Colt Gold Cup Trophy. I'm getting a lot of hammer follow and have adjusted the sear spring to the point that it doesn't fix the problem.

Today I read in Brownell's website that there was a longer sear, made to eliminate the problem of different spacings on 1911 clones. Hopefully this is the last thing I will have to do to the gun to get 100 % reliability.

The bench is heavy, but I can easily flip it into my pickup body, upside-down, for moving it around.

A case for the Taurus Model 66 with 12-inch barrel. I had to go to a non-gun case, but am making it gun related. So I got a zippered, padded case for a mini keyboard instrument that is exactly the right size for the gun. It is posted here.
