For all of you Hawk shooters, I ordered a Scattergun Technologies +1 tube extension and it's due to arrive tomorrow. In prepping the gun to accept the extension, I'm aware of how to drill out the dimples in the tube. However, there is a plastic plug that (unlike the 870's plug) extends out of the tube.
The plug has teeth around the circumference that engage recesses in the mag tube cap to give a ratcheting effect when tightening the cap. How do I removed this plug?
Thanks in advnce.

Extension won't fit

The Scattergun Tech +1 extension will not screw on more than about two turns and then stops. I also tried my 870 standard cap and it does the same thing. Now I'm wondering if the threads are metric, like the rear sight screws. This is puzzling though because the stock screw is SAE.
Any thoughts??

Hang on, I'll check an 870 mag cap on my 982 and see if it fits...

eta- Yep- fits just fine, all the way down. They might have gotten you the wrong extension, perhaps... or it might be some odd difference in how the threads are sized, I don't know. I've had a couple of Wilson 1-shot extensions on 870s and didn't have any problems with them- seems like if the extension is really for an 870, it ought to fit...

It's probably the threads on the 982. I have had a few customers have the same problem. I also had a Protector do the same thing. On it, I tried several of my tube extensions until I found one that would work. I believe it's a problem with the start of the first thread on the mag tube. Sometimes it's very thin and causes problems. It also happens on some 870s as well but it's very rare.

Finally got it on

Thanks for your help guys. After messing around with it today, screwing it on and off it seemed to go a bit further each time. I used a wire brush to clean the threads on the tube and the extension and then used some Kroil. It finally went on all the way and now screws on and off somewhat easily and cinches down tight against the barrel lug.

Also got my Vang safety installed and added a nice Galco SLC sling.

Photo of extension

Only got one good photo before the camera battery died, then had to re-register at Photobucket because my old account was inactive.

The things I do for you guys.:)

Yes, It does come with a new spring and a hi-vis green follower. However, I chose to use the standard follower, which is orange, as it doesn't have the tail on it the green one does, which I have read can reduce your capacity due to its' length.

It's not the tail that takes away space in the tube, it's the solid end that's 1/2" thick. The factory follower is hollow and the spring fits inside so no space is lost.

Your extension is only a +1 so the Wilson follower shouldn't lower the capacity.

OK, my misconception. So do you recommend I use the Wilson follower over the standard one. Probably into splitting hairs now, but I do want to use the one that is not going to hang up and cause feeding issues. Since I used the replacement spring, which is noticably heavier, should I go with the Wilson follower.
Thanks for your input, it is much appreciated.
