Headed to the range today with only rifles. The 22 is a pre-64 Marlin 39A Mountie, the a SKS, the 30-30 is a pre-64 Winchester and the 45-70 is a new Marlin.
I was shooting Federal 22s, Steel case 76.2s, 3030 was 170 grn Ranch Dogs over 25.5 gns if IMR 3031 and the 45-70 was 4 rounds of Nosler BT 300 grn bullets over 63.0 gns of H335 and 3 rounds Hornady 350 grn FP over 45.2 gn of RL-7. The manuals says the Nosler is about 2187 f/sec and the Hornady is 1700 f/sec.
I am going to be saving a bunch of powder because I am not shooting the 45-70 until I get some lead bullets in and a recoil pad. The kicks like a mule.
I was adjusting the buckhorn sights trying to work them up to the bullseye.
Here is 5 - 15 shot groups with the 22
Here is 60 rounds with the SKS
20 rounds with the 3030
and 7 rounds with the 45-70
