Sooooo....I am working out on an oil rig and just got confirmation that my new Tikka T3 Hunter in .243 Win has shipped. It should arrive in Texa about the same time I do. Also in the mail are a die set, brass, a new scope, deadnutz base/rings (since I heard the ones on the tikka are crap), 70 gr Nosler Varmint Ballistic Tips and 95 gr Nosler ballistic tips. I'll get some partitions for whitetails if I have good luck with either of those.

I have a few reloading books at home and have downloaded some data from Nosler and hodgdon, but was wondering if anyone has a favortie powder they use for the .243. I have quite a variety so I can experiment while I break in the barrel.

Thanks as always. Can't wait to shoot it along with my new Dan Wesson CCO that has been sitting in the safe for over a month unfired

Always heard good things about Varget and have tried it in a couple of Calibers but have always found something more accurate. Maybe it will be the ticket for my .243! Thanks!

I always used IMR 4350 under 100gr bullets for just about everything. Always happy with it.

3031 has always worked for me with 70- and 85-grain bullets.

    I use:

85 grain Sierra HPBT ahead of 43.5 grains of IMR 4350 and CCI LR primers

80 grain Hornady GMX, 38.0 gr. IMR 4895, Fed LR primers

85 gr. Barnes TSX, 39.0 gr. IMR 4064, CCI LR primers

Note: The GMX and Barnes TSX loads both shoot to the same POI at 100 yards.

Almost all to medium to slow powders work in a .243 its hard to find something that doesn't work. I like IMR4895,4350,4831,7828 and RL17,19,22 and H414,4350,4831,Varget. Maybe I'm just lucky but it seems my two .243's that I own will digest just about anything powder or bullet and still shoot MOA or better. My favorite bullets are 70 grn ballistic tips, the 87 grn Vmax and the 100 grn Sierra gamekings. I can get all three of those bullets to shoot sub MOA in both my rifles with almost all the powders I've mentioned.
