Chicago

Rickstir - Don't take this personally but if the Cubs win one more game all year, I count it as too many wins.....

Chicago ? I spent many years there. May God help you my son !

Welcome!

Chicago is a place I would like to visit someday. Don't know about living there, but it is one of the places I have been looking at for Grad school, if I decide to go.

Was in a local Radio shack that also sells guns

Really? Wish that were around here. That way, I could get the best of both worlds.

RE:

Welcome COC, I too was born and raised in Chicago. Lived at Sacremento and Wellington (across the street from the Kennedy xpressway. (Logan Square area). We moved out in 69 when they brought the subway in, (dad thought there were too many undesireables). I have lived all over the surrounding suburbs since. Norridge (Harlem Irving), Schiller Park, Lombard, Westchester, Elk Grove Village and now Schaumburg. The worst thing about being in the county of Cook is that there are no outdoor ranges near by. I really like doing what I enjoy (shooting) outside. There are a few indoor ranges I have shot at: Bells' (Franklin Park), Gun World (Bensenville), GAT one of my current haunts (Dundee). One more but I have not been to is Maxxon Sports in Des Plaines.
Chicago is a great place....but "The Man who would be King" Mayor Daley has made things very tough for all of us Illinois gun owners. He has this sick thought that taking away law abiding citizens guns will rid his city of the violence. Hates guns, and has no concern for the true safety of his city's citizens. But why should he?? He has round the clock heavy security to keep him and his safe. His influence however is statewide.....When will these idiots realize that passing laws on gun control get nowhere as the criminals don't follow the laws anyway. Also, if they would study the other cities and states that have carry laws, whether concealed or open, the crime rates have completely dropped. As the bad guys don't want to risk a lethal encounter by way of an armed citizen.
Anyway, sorry I got a bit OT, welcome to the site....hope you gain alot of info and enjoy it as much as I do....mack

Thanks for all the responses, guys.

Top Notch - I'm currently just on the West edge of Bucktown - a couple of blocks off from Ashland and Chicago Ave's.

GoRon - thanks for the links - I've been through those, too. Spend a lot of time on 1911 forum and on pistolsmith.com, as well.

44Brent - thanks for the link.

Mack69 - I have spent many a day at GAT. In fact, that is where I bought my Smith. A buddy is a copper for Streamwood, so I get up there once in a while. My other trapping is MegaSports in Plainfield. Nice range, and I always have to stop by and fondle one of the DS Arms .308 carbines. Hey - it's a sickness for which there is only one cure.

Well, wish me luck - last week I saw a pretty little 1911 in the case, and today I go down with cash in hand. Hope it's still sitting there - will let you know what happens.

All right - just wanted to say that yesterday I went down and picked up a brand spankin' new SA mil-spec. Sold my motorcycle, so I had a wee bit of extra cash.

Hooray for me.

The food in Chicago is world class. Places you have to visit:

Mr. Beef
Portillo's
Gino's East
Giordanno's

Chicago has the best deep dish pizza, hot dogs and Italian beef in the world!:D

I used to work at the East Bank Club on Kingsbury, and would walk over to Mr. Beef twice a week for a sammich. Beef, hot, fries, Coke please.

Not a Lou Malnotti's fan - Gino's is the best. Giordano's is good too.

Next time you go to a Hawks or Bulls game, go up top and get one of the United Center's beef sammich's. Thats a good beef, too.

Don't forget that to a criminal the only good citizen is an unarmed citizen. Being a good criminal, Daly is doing what is best for him and disarming the law abiding.

Update: Purchased and shot the crap out of my new mil-spec (approx 1000 rounds in a couple weeks - yes I'm sick). It is off now for some touches - commander hammer, trigger, front strap checkering and the like. Will let you see some pics when I get it back.

You don't happen to have ever met a medium height and build blonde woman named Rose who smells like patchouli and weed at any ranges, wielding a .357 DEagle?

Where do you shoot at?

I was shooting at the Chicago Ridge shop (next to Oak Lawn, just south of the city on Southwest Highway) and they required that I buy their ammunition.

What a rip! Said some BS about my ammo needed to be cleanfire ammunition, more specifically Winclean. I was ready to walk out and they said that I could shoot their reloads. What makes reloads so clean?

Lately I have been lurking in the lanes at MegaSports in Plainfield. Occasionally, when I lived closer, I have been known to hit GAT Guns in West Dundee.

Use our Range-Buy our Ammo? Sounds more like business.
