Guys, I'm hoping one of you has a better idea here. After searching the forums for advice I ordered a Shooters Ridge Sling Loc Swivel set for my Model 94. It seemed to be the common recommendation for my need. Long story short, it doesn't work too well. One half of the clamp for the front mount is large enough the it doesn't allow the swivel to swivel. See pic more more detail. I would assume a machining error that could be a fluke but I wasn't real happy about the mount anyway. I would prefer something more secure. I worry about the clamp slipping or rotating. A clamp that clasped both barrel and magazine...... or least one with more surface area would seem more better. Maybe a replacement for the existing front band (on the rifle) with a built-in mount.

I've searched the web but havn't found anything better. Maybe this is a good as it gets. But I thought I'd post here before I give up.

Thanks In advance!

FIRST: Make ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN that the one you have is for a 94 and NOT a 336. They have different diameter tubes.

SECOND: What you have pictured is the most common method of sling attachment for that gun and should work as advertised. If one half is larger and interfereing with the action of the other half, and this is a hunting rifle (and used for such) I would file the larger half until it clears and allows proper operation. Touch it up with some cold blue and keep an eye on it for any light rust that may appear in that spot.

The one you have looks an awful lot like the Uncle Mike's unit I have. Though it doesn't look like it would be that secure, in fact, the one I have works fine. As Bailey Boat suggested, make certain that you have the right one-they (the 336 and the 94 models) appear identical until you try to install them.

I have a Uncle Mikes also very similar, it works great. I would venture to say that who ever made that one forgot to take more off the clasp area where its rubbing. Make sure you keep the gap even at either screw.

I have had Unkle Mikes magazine-band swivel studs on a 92, a 94, a 9422, and a 9422M for going on 40 years with never a problem.

But, there are sling swivels, and there are sling swivels.

Uncle Mikes swivels will fit all four, but some cheap swivels that came on a couple of new slings will not fit any of them.

If you're going to drill and tap the barrel band just use one of the SAE threaded studs cut to length... KPS....Where are you located????

Sorry for the slow reply....working a lot.

Bailey, the package does say "Winchester 94/Marlin 336". That could be part of the problem maybe one made specifically for the 94 would fit better. Says it fits dia. 0.630 - 0.675". BTW, I am in Nashville, TN.

Junkman, thanks for the link.
I like the barrel band option. More work but probably worth it.

I also noticed the full band type magazine tube clamp.

It says it fits 0.645 - 0.660"

I'll need to go measure to see exactly what my 94 magazine dia. is.

OK, here's how I did mine:

That's a clamp with an internal liner (similar to the ones that come with scope mounts to protect the finish of the scope) which you can't see, and an o-ring as a buffer between the mount and the barrel band. I put the swivel mount as close to the barrel band to minimize the possibility of bending the magazine tube.
