Help Identifying This Revolver

Hello... A friend of mine sent a picture of this. He told me a friend gave it to him. Thanks for any help.

Smith and Wesson M36, aka Chief's Special. Probably mid-80s production, pre MIM and internal lock, nice condition, highly sought after......
A kingly gift, to be sure!

It appears to be a Smith & Wesson J frame in. 38 Special. Have him open the cylinder and see what is written there. Is it stainless, maybe a model 60. If blued, maybe a model 36.

Looks to be a blued S&W Model 36 with Pachmayr Compac grips on it.

Looks like a model 36. It should be stamped with the model number in the yoke cutout when you open the cylinder. Will say MOD 36 .....unless it's an air weight. Then it would be a model 37. 36 has a steel frame, 37 has an aluminum alloy frame
