Okay, I finally have a little bit of extra money and I have not had the chance to purchase a new gun in a while so I need help in choosing my next gun to purchase. I really don't have any special needs from the gun. Just itching to buy another gun.

I have narrowed my choices to these:

Taurus PT-92

This one specifically:

Springfield XD9 Subcompact

and

Bersa Thunder 9 Ultracompact

If you guys have any other suggestions let me know. Semi-autos only and I'm trying to keep my purchase in the $500-ish or lower range after taxes.

What 'niche' are you trying to fill here? One is a full-sized steel model, and the others are subcompacts suited more for carry purposes.

The safe pick is probably going to be the XD9.

Of the three you've mentioned, the XD is by far the most superior in quality of construction. That said you've laid out a budget of $500.00 or less and that brings some other toy's into the picture. My number one recomendation would be a Glock-17/19 in 9mm. At $499.00 NIB it's the best service-9 in the world market today and will easily trump two of your choices and almost certainly the other as well. If you happen to be one of the few whom find the G-17/19 incompatible to your tastes look hard at the S&W M&P, a superb offering also retailing at $499.00. You'll also find the CZ-75 PO1 9mm at the very least equal to the XD and superior to your other choices and selling for well under $500.00 new, many will tell you it is also superior to the XD and many other famous brand names to. Of your original list, I find only the SA as a quality option......................Good luck
P.S. I have no idea how reputable Bud's gunshop is, but they have Glock's listed NIB for just $499.00....

If your looking for an accurate range pistol I'd say CZ-75b or Beretta 92fs. If your looking for a carry gun, my favorite is a Glock 19. Everyone is different though....go out and see what fits you best and enjoy. Out of your choices I'd also go with the XD9.

D-Man - I was just itching for something new and those were the ones that caught my eye. So I'm pretty open to full sized and compact!

Denali- I did not like the feeling of the Glock that I handled a while back. Maybe I should give it another look. And I had not even thought about the M&P. I'll probably take a trip to the local Gander Mountain tomorrow and handle one.

joker31- I have handled a CZ-75 and I did like the way it felt it in my hands. I had forgot about that one. That Beretta might be a little too rich$$$ for my blood!:D

Thanks for the recommendations

I can't speak to the Bersa, but FOR ME, the Springer would be #1 and the Taurus #2.

The XD is an excellent gun w/great ergos. Looks a bit blocky, but it'll run. Smaller & lighter than the Taurus - which is the Taurus' downfall. As an all-steel gun, it's heavier than the other two choices or the Glock, for that matter. People poo-poo the Taurus, but that 92'll get 'er done. It's big for CCW, IMO, but it could serve.

I had the 92AF model, but sold it last month. Why? Too big for my hands. The XD and MP9 fit me very well.

Which fits you? That's the deciding factor. Small hands; the Bersa might come out on top. Paws for hands? The bigger Glocks or Taurus might fit the bill. Check them out...hold them...shoot them if you can...then decide.

Buy the Bersa. All 3 of mine have been flawless with at 1K through each one.
One is my daily CCW. Also, the triggers smooth out very nicely with some shooting.

I would consider the CZ-75 as an option I've got a pre-B CZ-75 and love the way it handles and shoots, the B models are probably just as good add to that the kadet .22 conversion and you've got 2 guns in one great gun in the price range you're looking at

from your list i would go with the xd all day long. i love mine and it is capable of shooting like a full size gun. they are reliable, accurate shooters and they are backed by a great copany with a great customer service policy.

I've seen a lot of people posts about Springfield's excellent customer service. Any feedback on the others?

Ahhh you're not going to buy from Gander Mountain are you? Why don't you just mail me $100 since that is at least what you'll be wasting there. I saw a Sigma there for $400 the other day. Nuts.

Anyway, back to your question, if you like the grip, go with the XD 9 (I have a heard nothing but positive things about the XD, both on here and offline. I would also suggest either a Ruger P89, P95, or SR9, but the first two are a little heavy.

Xd 9

I just purchased an XD-9 Service Model with a stainless slide back in November. It's been a great gun. Good price and came with two 16rnd mags. Can't go wrong!

Sandwich-umm...er..umm..no..:uhoh:...was kinda thinking about it....umm...The price there was $549.99 for the XD9 Subcompact with a 10 round and a 16 round mag. And I have been wanting a P89 and a P95. Saw a P95 for $299 NIB at a local shop. Gander was charging $450 for a P89!

Stealth-If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay?

sig p250 c then you can make it a sub or a full someday. pick mine up tommorow. io know it's not on your list but it's not too late to make the right choice. siggy

Out of what you mentioned I would go with the XD9 without a doubt. All-around great little gun.

When I read Taurus and Bersa I almost puked.:) If you insist on one of those 3 guns, please do yourself a favor and just get the XD.

cant speak for the xd or bersa but i have the 92 -heavy for all day carry ,but mine has been flawless for 8 yrs, good acuracy and loads of fun for plinking on the back 40

Another +1 on the XDSC. Just about 1,000 on my 9mm, and still going strong without a single hiccup. FMJ,JHP, you feed it, and it shoots. Boringly accurate for a smalll gun also. And very mild recoil.
If you can fondle one, check out the M&P in both full size and compact. 2 more sure winners.

If the Beretta/Taurus 92fs style of gun has your interest, check out used ones first. The market seems to be flush with really nice second hand options for as much as $200 less than the brand new version. I traded my 2 year old 92fs on account of it being a bit on the large side to be a carry gun. I paid $550 for it, it sold for $350 with a pair of Hogue custom grips still attached to it. It was a very nice gun however, the CZcompact that replaced it was, for me, a better gun; I could conceal it and shoot it more accurately than the Beretta. I think I paid $450 or so for the CZ Compact in satin nickel finish. I only sacrificed 3 rounds in total capacity.

Okay okay. I put the XD9 Subcompact on layaway because (1) It was the last one that they had and (2) I'm still not sure if that's what I want yet. Retail was 549.99. Came to like 580 something including tax which is on the high side of what I was trying to pay. This is at Gander Mountain by the way. Should I go elsewhere or what? I thought about doing an online purchase but the problem is with shipping and transfer fees I would probably be close to that price anyway. Still, I really wasn't trying to pay that much yet. Suggestions?

mike4guns- How much did you pay for the sig?

Angus-Beautiful gun. How does it feel in the hand. I haven't seen one of the CZ compact's around. Just the full sized ones and those felt great.

Cpshooter- That wasn't very nice:D I bought a PT-145 about two years ago and it has had no malfunctions and I have a Bersa.380 with no malfunctions!:D

The CZ Compact has a smaller grip than the full size 75b,(obviously), and therefore your pinky finger hasn't got as much of a home like it does on a larger grip, however, the magazine base extends and I can fit my pinky onto it. There are two ways to grip this gun, one uses the pinky, one doesn't. I can shoot both ways.Everyone's hand is different; I'd consider mine to be large,(so I'm told), and I really like the grip. The targets have the final say I reckon.

You were kind of thinking about it? Great, I'll PM you my address, and I prefer Money Orders. Oh, you meant buy from Ripoff Mountain? I feel sorry for you.

As for layaway, you are aware that they make plenty of XDs, right? There will always be more.

As for suggestions, hit up the gun stores around your area. I'm sure you can find a better price. And if you want to order online, use a pawnshop with a FFL license for the transfer. It will usually be cheaper.

Sandwich-LOL! I'll send that money order right away.

That *$!* clerk told me that was the last one they were gonna make!........ J/K:D Anyway, yeah I think all was just anxious to have something new waiting in the wings. Maybe I should just try Bud's.
