help me figure out what gun I used to own

When I first started hunting deer in 1986 as a 10 y/o my dad bought me a new bolt action "Remington sportster .243 youth model" and I killed a lot of deer with it. It was an absolutely no frills rifle, plain wood with no checkering or anything. i think it had a Bushnell 3x9 scope but I do not know if it came with the gun or we added it. When I was 17 I traded it for a Win Model 70 varmint barreled 22-250 which I still own and used my dad's spare 7x57 M77 for deer which I also still have.

I know I came out ahead on the trade as the M70 was in perfect condition and shoots like a dream, but I was thinking the other day and I can't figure out what the Remington was exactly. It must of had a model number or something but I can't figure out what was exactly.

Any ideas?

Or maybe a Model 78 Sportsman made from '84 to '89.
5 caliber choices, 22-inch bbl., 4-shot mag., uncheckered hardwood stock, open sights (all according to the Blue Book.) Doesn't say if they made a youth model.

Here's one, but it says checkered walnut.
