I have been safekeeping three guns for a relative while they were out of the country for a few years. They have returned to CONUS and now need the guns back. I'm sending them tomorrow and just realized I might have a problem.

There is a gaping hole in my gun safe where those guns used to reside. It looks terrible...it feels weird. I wasn't used to having any space in there...and now there is space for at least three pistols.

Do I start shopping immediately in order to plug this ugly empty space? Do I wait and allow it to fill in by itself over time? Do I reshuffle stuff to hide the empty space?

I wasn't prepared for this dilema. I certainly didn't ask for it...I'm just a guy trying to make things look good.

    What do I do?

Tell them you left the guns leaning in a corner in the garage while they were gone, and somebody stole them.

Then put them back in your safe to fill up the emptiness.

Forgive me lord for saying that, and save all the starving pygmy's in Alaska.

Even better than what rc said is that you took them to defend yourself on a deep-sea fishing trip with an old lady, an ex-con, a priest, a used car salesman, a military veteran, a pacifist, a vegetarian, a hunter, a circus midget, a Panamanian strong man, and a chihuahua. The chihuahua and the circus midget both ended up on the same side of the boat, throwing off the balance of the boat which then capsized resulting in the loss of said guns. That way they're not asking for pesky things like police reports etc...

    :)

HA! I have no problem sending the guns...but the moment I saw the empty space I started thinking "this needs to be fixed". I immediately started having visions of strolling the gun counter...looking for...something.

The wife is gonna come in here to see what the heck I'm laughing about, look over my shoulder, and discover my plans. We're only three posts deep in the thread and it's already getting dicey for me!

dude...that line about the chihuahua and the circus midget was comedic genius.:D

How are you sending them? Are you shipping them to another State?

Note that under federal law you may not ship handguns by U. S. Mail. They will have to be shipped by FedEx or UPS. Under FedEx and UPS rules, they will only ship handguns from a private party to an FFL.

And if the guns are being shipped across state lines, federal law prohibits shipping them directly to individuals. They must be shipped to an FFL who will do a formal transfer -- including the completion of a 4473.

I'm no stranger to the legalities of shipping guns.

Then how come they keep getting lost in transit? :)

Frank's just making sure because there are quite a few people who don't know about the laws/regs.

Yes, you would. You'd be sick of me yelling "go fish" after the first couple of hands.

They were just "taking up space" so that tells me the space was there before.

Hold up on any quick buys just to fill that space. Not a sound idea.

You`ll get over the shock in due time, then consider what you may want/need.

    Dear gspn,

Your problem is not unique, so don't feel bad or guilty.

But get a couple of cheap plastic cap guns or water pistols and hang them in there. That will relieve the immediate tension of that burning need.

They don't have to be clones of the originals, just space fillers.

Then you can go out on a leisurely, considered basis and search for guns you might want and maybe even do a little haggling.

When you find one to fill one of the spaces, take the corresponding plastic one out, stomp on it, and throw it away.

Proceed to the next "desire," as opposed to "need."

    Repeat as necessary.

    Gspn;

I agree with most of the above post. But, don't stomp on those cap guns! Turn those evil bassiches in for $50.00 each when the idjits sponser another buy back. That gives you another $150.00 in the budget. Sheesh! I thought that was obvious.

Once again the High Road has proven to be a great sounding board. Cap guns to buy time, and then selling the cap guns at a gun buy-back are both brilliant ideas!

It sounds like the issue here is not that you are missing 3 guns, but rather you have a problem with your safe being out of "balance". My suggestion (and I"m usually right on these sort of things), is to send the rest of the guns from your safe to me. Then you will once again have balance. Shoot...I'll even pay the shipping to get them here...ya know...just to help out a fellow gun owner.

I even hate the empty space left when I pull a different CCW or truck pistol out of the safe.

Is there feng shui in safes? Or just yin/yang. Mine is definitely out of balance somewhere.

It is well known that nature abhors a vacuum. You have a triple vacuum! This is very bad...and maybe dangerous! I suggest you evaluate your pistol group and fill the most glaring deficiency right now. Then you can take a little time and work out how to fill the other two slots. Maybe that will protect the space/time continuance...or something...

Just get out there and buy a gun! You know what you need. :D

Ummmm....... Buy some guns? Or don't....... I guess I don't get this thread. Uh, good luck with your "problem."

If you stored a friend's car and gave it back, would you buy one to fill your garage?

No, I wouldn't buy another car to fill the space. I'd buy three motorcycles. Then I'd celebrate buying each motorcycle by buying a comemoritive gun to associate it with. Maybe a Zorkan slime cannon too.

E.S.I.S is a very serious condition. If you dont fill them in 21 days, there can be deductions to your man-card, points rewards.
