<Mods. I hope I put his in an ok place, please move it as needed.>

To everyone reading this. As some of you know my nephew Jonathan Kerr has been battling liver cancer for the last two years (he is 9 years old now). He has endured a great deal of chemotherapy and surgery to make it this far. Unfortunately his insurance is now refusing to pay for a new treatment that might cure him. There are programs, which can fund his treatment, even if insurance will not pay, but it can take years to get through all the red tape. It has been recommended to Jonathans family to have everyone send an e-mail to support him and encourage the hospital to go ahead with the treatment using their funds raised by various charitable donations. Please send an email to this address and we are told that the hospital will reply to each one sent.

A “form letter” template:

We are writing on behalf of Jonathan D. Kerr, a nine-year-old cancer patient at Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital. His insurance company despite the possibility it might save his live has repeatedly denied the treatment recommend by his oncologist. We implore you to use whatever funds necessary in order to provide the best possible treatment for this little boy.

I thought Scottish Rite Hospitals didn't charge...

Is that just the TX Scottish Rite?

Nope. His parents have a huge bill adding up since he was diagnosed. This treatment is experimental and has only been used in one other child in the united states, but that child has been in remission or +2 years. Her is my initial link asking for everyone to pray for him:

You can also do a search for Jonathan Kerr on yahoo and find the reference to Kennesaw Baptist Church with his fund raiser.

Here is a picture of Jonathan with my kids this November. Sorry if I seem a wee bit defensive, but I have been accused of all sorts of crap about this when a 9 y.o. life is on the line and when something as simple as an e-mail may be the difference.

Not at all. Your reply was more polite than I had a right to expect.

The Texas Scottish Rite hospital is free of charge, but it is very restrictive in terms of the kinds of ailments treated (does not treat cancer, for example). I understand now that is not a general policy of the Scottish Rite hospitals and certainly that is not the case with the Georgia Hospital involved in this case.

E-mail sent to the hospital, and prayers sent to the Big Guy for the little guy. May He watch over him and all of you.
