I have a chance to get a used MK five .300 wby Japanese rifle with ex bore in very good condition with minor hunting marks from a older friend who hunted in Alaska and out west and doesn,t need it any more, we have been friends for a good many years and he wants wanted to give it to me, but I would like to pay him for it. what would a fair price be. thanks.

Check Gunbroker or similar and see what people are bidding up to (not the sellers asking price). This is a pretty fair way to check what people are paying for them.

This $750 price is to high, for its poor condition. imo.

Establishing a fair price is complicated if you have no real desire to own it. If I insisted on gifting you my winter wheels/tires from my Jeep, they’re worth something to a specific market, another amount to a reseller, and very little to the guy who owns an Audi.

You could look at the used market, determine your level of interest vs what you might otherwise choose to buy, then meet in the middle. What would you part with after haggling if it were sitting at the LGS? Another option might be a “trade” (gift) of something useful. Otherwise call it $800 or insist he keep it if you have no use for it.

Cabelas has one listed for $1350; others are ranging from 700-1600 - this is on GunInternational.com

    I'd say about $1,000.

$900 used retail in 85+% unscoped.. $600 for fast sale, .300s are generally hard to sell and the Japanese sell much lest than German made ones. They are excellent guns

It looks like the recoil pad has hardened and needs to be replaced.

Sounds like a fair offer on a gun that your friend wanted to give you anyways.
