Help picking a press.

Oh, and operating a newer Rock Chucker feels like driving a stick-shift.

YOU decide on the press ! I've had an RCBS since '67, single stage, still use it, wouldn't want another one. This works for me, others can spend, spend, spend on what they want/need. Get what you want, only then will you be pleased!

i went for the lyman crusher press , wich i bought as a kit , i believe they call it expert kit . it comes with a good powderscale , primerassembly ,caselubepad,
primertray and..... a real good casetrimmer and the lyman 49 th reloadbook !
i upgraded it with the ram type primer die , wich works superb .
the press itself will outlast me by far and easy to use.
if i was for some reason ever to buy a new press , i would defenitly buy this one again !

Joed, which one is aluminum?
RCBS RockChucker is cast iron.

Lee Classic Cast is cast iron

Lee Challenger is a single stage aluminum press.

Lee Deluxe Turret is aluminum base, steel uprights and aluminum turret monted in a steel ring. (and has design details different from the Lee Classic Turret)

Lee Classic Turret is cast iron base, steel uprights and aluminum turret mounted in a steel ring. (design details different from the Deluxe Turret all make this press better)

Aluminum is stronger than steel or cast iron for its weight. Cast iron and steel are stronger than aluminum for its size (cross-sectional area). Aluminum is less abrasion-resistant than its ferrous brethren.

I was once making the same decision over 30 years ago. Settled on the Rockchucker at twice the price. It's still working which says a lot for it.

When it comes to tools I like steel more then aluminum.

The reason I asked Joed that question is because he mentioned aluminum. I own a LCC, LCT, Dillon RL300, and RCBS RS(JR). One day I'll find a use for the RS. I feel like I'm neglecting it since I bought the LCC. Thanks for responding though.

Lots of used and some new reloading stuff show up on eBay. If you have the patience to shop there, you may be able to save some bucks.

I recently bought a RCBS Jr 3 press (iron and steel) there that was in very good shape for a very reasonable price. This press is just the ticket for handgun ammo. I am liking it.

No offense intended but I bought a Lyman steel six station turret in '65 and it's still going strong. I have a friend who bought an inexpensive Herter's cast steel press about the same time and it's still going strong. A younger friend has a Lee alum alloy Challenger press he bought about '75 and it's still going strong. Meaning any press that's used properly and taken care of will last three lifetimes so we don't need to buy into "twice the price" RCBS Rock Chucker hype to get long life.

For a single stage press you can't beat the Lee Classic Cast Press. My father owns the RCBS Rock Chucker so I used one alot and IMHO the Lee CC Press feels better and stronger. If it was between the RCBS RC and the Lee Challenger Press I would probably pick the RCBS, but between the RCBS RC and the Lee CC the Lee wins hands down.

I have a RC and a LCT. After I bought the LCT the old RC doesn't see hardly any use. Nothing wrong with it the LCT is just a great press. Either of the three (RC,LCC, or LCT) will do you a great job.

Replaced my 37 year old Rockchucker a few months ago with a Forster Coax. Outstanding press and would never go back.

Sounds like both presses will make quality ammo for a long, long time. To me, it really comes down to how much money I want to put into my hobby. I started reloading to save money, however, it didn't take long for me to head down the dark path. At this point, a few extra dollars doesn't matter so much as my satisfaction is why I do what I do. You really should discover what you need to accomplish with reloading and make the decision that is best for you. As my grandfather told me more than once, "It's not your needs that get you into trouble, it's your wants."

Well after hours of reading reviews and comparing, and with yalls experience...I going with both lee classic cast and lee turret. Came down to price. Thanks everyone.

I only see one press worthy of being on a bench. The RCBS is made in the US, including its casting, and will outlast their owners. Price should never be the sole determinant.

'nuff said

Blanket statement!

As is the presses made by Lee Precision, and all their other products.

Remember the "best" press in most anyones eyes is the one that does the job for him, and is affordable to him, and the one he likes to use.

Good choice. Both are great presses. Nothing against any of the others, but these will give you great "bang for the buck."

Good choice on the Turret. It's a great press, and in my opinion the best thing short of a progressive. Hope you enjoy them.

Like the Redding, Rcbs, Lyman, and any other good press, the Lee classic presses will likely outlast you, and your kids, and their kids.

K. Rohrer. Price was not the sole factor. Both Rock Chucker and LCC seem to be equal in quality. The lee costs less...so why buy a product of equal quality for more than I need to.

For the pleasure of jiggling the sloppy lever?
Yep.That's the only thing I have against my Rockchucker. With the pin and E Clips that RCBS went to in the linkage, it will be there. It doesn't hurt the functionality of it but the Lee LCC and LCT will not have that. I still have the RC but do almost all of my loading on the LCT.

"Nuff said". lol Products evolve. New ones are produced. Like all things in life, things change, sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse. It is not now, and God willing, nor will it ever be a "nuff said" moment, on this subject.

Still waiting on Lee to make an "Ultramag" and sell it for the same price as a RC. The Lee innovation could be using movable self aligning Forster type die holders like the ones on the Co-Ax.

According to RCBS, all of their presses are made in California with the exception of the aluminum Reloader press made in China to compete with Lee's aluminum SS press. The warranty on RCBS is SUPERIOR to Lee also. RCBS Customer Service is the best in the business. Unlimited lifetime and no questions asked warranty. If it breaks, they will send out a new part for free, no questions asked!

And yes, I have a Rock Chucker II and Redding Big Boss II. The Redding Big Boss II is the ultimate SS press. I have no experience with Redding's warranty. I never had to use it.
