    I have a pre '68 savage/stevens mod. 67E pump shotgun.(no ser. #'s )
I can't get the forearm stock off in order to refinish it.
Here is a exploded view of the gun http://www.gunuts.com/images/77.jpg
it is part #65 the operating handle bar collar.
Any tips on removing it appreciated.

That whole series of Savage/Stevens pumpguns (30, 67, 77, 79) is not particularly disassembly friendly. Were I you, I'd either let it go as is, or mask off the rest of the gun and refinish the forearm in place...

Keep it sparingly oiled and use it. Don't even try to disassemble it. I had one of those pot metal wonders some years ago but graciously parted with it. No regrets. Use Gunscrubber to clean ot the action then spray it with a short squit of Breakfree CLP. Mine worked great for a while but started to jam too much. Hopefully, yours will last a long time.
