Started to deprime 50 pieces of assorted brass.
Used RCBS case lube and Lee dies.
33 cases have dimples in the shoulder.
What am I doing wrong, and are these cases salvageable?
TIA

Too much lube. The best way is to lube the insides of the case mouth with a inside case cleaning brush. Lube a bunch at the same time and put them in a container. The lube will run to the out side just enough to make depriming work. I do it this way for all rifle cases.

When this happens take the die apart and clean it. You will avoid this if you only lube the case body and not the case shoulder and outside neck. Enough lube will be pushed up there when sizing to work. After cleaning I lube the first case all over to assure easy sizing without sticking. There are vent holes in most dies to bleed off lube on the shoulder but are often blocked by the lock nut unfortunately.

As everyone said... no problem. .30-30 brass is pretty thin. The one place you will need to pay attention is when (or if) you crimp bullets into those cases. As I mentioned, .30-30 cases are pretty thin, particularly around the neck. I've crushed more .30-30 brass than probably any other cartridge case... go easy, young man!

Assuming they are for a tubular magazine on a lever-action, you will need to crimp. Make sure all the cases are trimmed to the same length, or, barring that, just don't go heavy on the crimp. If memory serves, I have a taper crimp die specifically for the .30-30...

Hat's off to FROG0207... whenever I see advice on cleaning dies, the poster always seems to leave out the mention of the line vent hole. If it is plugged, tje excess lube can not escape, and being as it can't compress, a dent results.

I also use the Lee FCD for crimping my 30-30 brass.

As a side note the hole in the middle of mine is big enough that I can use it to crimp my 32SPL rounds as well just by adjusting it for the correct crimp on them as well.
