Help With Post WWII Military Issue Black Holster

I need some help. I have had this holster for some time and I know very little about it. It is a black, leather, snap holster with “US” circled (more like ovaled) embossed on the front and on the back, “FFLD ENG” on the first line and “7791 495”on the second. It has a metal "squared" clip as well as a belt holder. The holster is in unused condition and has been sitting in a drawer for several years. I can not find ANYTHING on the web about this item, and would like to know more about it. If you can help I would be grateful. I have posted two pics to help, but I have more and, the ability to post more of any angle if needed.

Looks very similar to this reproduction Victory Model designed to carry an issue 4" .38 Special revolver:

Obvious minor differences (use of snap closure, rivets, etc.), but basically the same pattern.

I'm guessing that "FFLD ENG" marking is probably the manufacturer (one of several government holster contractors).

GI Issue or copy for the S&W Victory Model, S&W Model 15 as used by the Air Force, and the Colt Commando size guns.

It is definitely post 1957 when the U.S. Military changed from brown leather to all black leather goods & combat boots.

I am leaning toward a copy, as the mil-spec holsters all used "Lift-the-Dot" fasteners on the flap, not snaps.
