I'm in the mood for a fun gun. I'm am tossing around the idea of getting either an AO M-1 carbine or a Thompson M-1 http://www.tommygun.com/ao_m1_f.html. Now I know there is about a 250-300 dollar differance in in price between the two with the Tompson being the higher of the two but, here's where it sort of evens out. I plan on reloading for whichever of the two I get. I am completly set up for reloading .45 ACP to include cases, dies, case trimmers, powder, primers and bullets. All I need is the gun. Now here's where the price evens up a bit. I have nothing for reloading .30 carbine. I figure it will cost about 200.00 to get set up. What do you think about either of the two. The little Carbine seems to be a handy little gun and would be good for new shooters but the Thompson has a real cool factor to it despite it's weight. I don't care anything about practicality or the fact that both designs are out dated. I want a gun that stands out and is not what everybody else at the range has.

Thanks, Flip.

With the semi thompsons, the LOP is horrendous. With the original item, it's perfect. Dunno why the disparity between length. So, if you got the tompson, you'd need to cut it down to a reasonable length, unless you have something above a 17" LOP. that, and they just don't feel right with such a long barrel. yes, i've fired a legit item on FA, and man did it rule; I just dont see how a semi auto would be near as much fun.

You see some guys with FA tommys more often at the range than the M1, in my experience.
