Here's a REALLY fun target for the .44 shooters!

Well... it's not strictly for .44's but it works well for anything with some power.
I tried tapping one with a .22 Magnum, I got lots of bubbles. The .44 Remington with my 360 grain Monster bullets makes tons of bubbles too. I tried shooting a container of them with my .50 flintlock and a Minnie ball. Again, lot's of bubbles. Even my shotgun loaded with #4 shot or a deer slug propelled by BP makes the bubbles fly!
I can get a 3 pack for only $1 at dollar tree, not too expensive but very fun.

I must not have enough soot in my blood at the moment...

Because my first thought was "Gee, wonder how many bubbles I could get with a 150gr .308" pill at about 2900 fps..."

...Can the house doctor prescribe me some BP and lead, please???
 
I'd bet you could take one with a .308 and really make the bubbles fly. I feel like I've been cheating lately because I'm loading more with smokeless. Feels like I'm committing adultery. :mad:

Well, at least my .32 S&W's loaded with BP and a SWC really work nicely for bubble making. And my BP shotshells. Especially pumpkin ball slugs.
 
I believe you can make your own bubble water pretty easily. Mom used to back in the 70's. Maybe I'll find out how she did it. Fill an old milk jug with that and you can save $$ for target practice. Also you can adjust the load to increase the bubble, I suspect. Make it red, too.
 
I think I recall my mother doing something similar, it might have been water and dish soap. Coloring it would be interesting, just a couple drops of food dye and you'd have a colorful and bubbly exploding target. Red, green, blue, and yellow please! :D
 
Next time I'm shooting I will pick up some bubbles before I head out, there's a dollar tree on the way. I'll try and get a good variety of guns to shoot the bubbles with, rifles pistols and shotguns! Even some deer slugs propelled by BP would be a nice projectile. Perhaps I could even figure out how to drill out the back of some Minnie balls, cut an X on the nose, and maybe use them like Foster slugs, That might just work! :)
 
I seemed to remember that it was more than simply water and dish soap. And sure enough the missing ingriedient is GLYCERINE! Although it appears that corn syrup and perhaps Rogers syrup can be used as well instead of the glycerine.

You can get glycerine at most any regular pharmacy. And of course you can get the corn or sugar cane syrup at any food store.

So when you say you got a lot of bubbles are we talking about blowing around in the air? Assuming that's the case I REALLY need to try some of this! ! ! ! :D
 
Mmmm...wonder how puttin this mixture in small ballons would work ?
I'm sure a windy day would ramp up the 'Welk' effect.

At least a couple dozen bubbles from a small handgun round, like a 30 grain pill @ 1200 FPS from a Super Companion. With larger rounds you get a big boom, burst of liquid, and a large amount of bubbles spread all around.

Keep in mind I did try regular ol' birdshot (1 oz of 7 1/2 chilled lead) on these, that did make about 15 bubbles from the container that I shot. It looked like a really angry rabid dog tore a container of bubbles to bits! :D
 
Ah yes, old flashy Lawrance Welk.... My folks used to enjoy watching his show. I was pre-pubescent at the time and innocent as a newly bloomed dandelion but even then I thought there was a little something over the top about his dressing..... :D

You may be thinking of Liberace there. Welk was an arch-conservative from the Midwest dance hall circuit. My grandparents loved his show, and kept watching long after they could dance. Or stay awake through it.
 
"Flour Bomb" Reactive Targets

I put flour into some plastic Easter eggs and they sort of explode into a nice puff of white powder "smoke" when hit by a bullet.
One might be able to make some flour bombs just by packing some bulk of it into a section of a sandwich bag and then sealing it with tape or a twist tie.
Or just wrap some flour up using homemade paper packets or use some other types of small containers that are handy.
Store brand flour and sandwich bags are inexpensive.

Steve, I have done that and it is very fun! I like to use empty shotshells that are too crispy to reload, or the crappy Winchester hulls that we have a lot of. The cool part is that when you hit them at the base with a .22 short or an airgun they spin around and throw a big cloud of flour in any direction!

I am kinda tempted to buy some cheap shaving cream from the dollar store, that might be a fun target for my .22 LR. I bet if they took a .50 roundball dead center they'd really blow up nicely! :D
 
Someone might have already mentioned it but, Yeah I think the Dawn liquid soap in a gallon jug would work good. I'll try it tomorrow and shoot it with a round ball out of my bp revolver. For a while there I ran out of ideas.Also take a balloon and with a funnel,pour a little flour and shoot with .22 it's fun too There's always something to shoot :p

You're right, they always is something fun and reactive to shoot! Never too expensive either!

Soup cans are great if you put them on the ground, you can tap them with a .44 and they jump, especially if you hit the edge. And soda cans filled with water are great and cheap, they explode nicely with just about any bullet. Even Aguila Super Colibri's split them open nicely! :)

One thing that I always tell my lefty friends is that I'm "environmentally responsible" by shredding my cans before recycling them. I just love to confuse them, it's so easy. :D
