A friend just acquired a Hesse AR-10, and is looking for mags for it. Which brand of mag does this rifle take? I'm not sure if a DPMS or Armalite will work. Anybody out there know? Thanks!

No idea but give him my condolences just the same. :neener:
Hesse has a reputation for some terrible firearms. I had the pleasure od spending hours getting a Hesse AR-15 to shoot well, they are not big on finish work.

Yeah, figures!

I did some Googling and saw that they are not well viewed for quality! I'd never heard of Hesse before, and he asked if we'd do some searching for mags on it. What I found isn't promising! Gee, now how do I break the news to him? Thanks for the condolences!:uhoh:

I suspect any other manufacturer AR10 mags should work but knowing Hesse.....

You may find you need to alter the magazines.....they are probably quality magazines an in spec.....the gun probably is not......you may need to make the magazines crappy and out of spec to work in the gun.

Perhaps you could start by berating them daily and telling them how bad they suck. :uhoh:

FAL mags

Robert designed that rifle around FAL mags. No other AR-10 type mags will fit it. Also, no other top ends are compatible with his rifle.

Isn't this the concept Bushmaster tried and gave up on? If a company with the reputation and resources of Bushmaster can't do it, I'd be real leary of somebody like Hesse getting it right.

I'd heard RRA bought the Bushmaster design.

I'd be curious to hear how it works or not.

Bushmaster did make it work, I have one and so does a hunting buddy. Both rifles have been nothing but reliable. I have taken game with mine at ranges out to 225 yards. I don't know where all these unfounded statements come from that they did not work. I'll put mine up against any other AR-10 made!

I think the main reason Bushmaster shut down the AR-10 was because of production cost. Their big sale was that the mags were cheaper than Armalite mags but after the sunset of the AWB Armalite mags dropped in price so people were not paying the $250 more for the Bushmaster.

Ok, thanks all! I emailed my friend the link that was posted here, thanks again. Maybe this way he can figure out what he needs and compare that rifle to his! If he tells me of any success I'll try and post it here! :)

So maybe there is hope for RRA actually making them available. New production or not, I think $40 for a 20 round AR10/DPMS mag is pretty steep, I'd like an AR10 type of gun that let me share mags with my FAL.

I don't think AR10 and DPMS .308 mags interchange.

$40 is a little steep but you can buy a lot of $40 mags for the $250 cheaper Armalite AR-10. Interchangable mags is why I bought the Bushmaster, I too have a FAL and already had about 20 mags for it.

The reason Bushmaster shuttled production was an issue with the bolt lugs.

RRA is working to correct this problem and are planning on having their version on the market this coming Summer.

RRA licensed the design to Bushmaster - who apparently had problems with it. Now they have their design back and are mfg it the way it was supposed to be done originally.

Least that's what I read on arfcom in the RRA forum.

As I said before, always
or
I speak from experience and well over 1k rounds each through 2 Bushmaster AR-10's with zero problems and still going. I don't let speculation and rumors rule my firearms buying decisions. You guys could be right, maybe we got the only 2 good ones. I sure am lucky!
