JCOOK,

One other to add to your list is the STOEGER Cougar. This was the BERETTA 8000 Cougar pistol, but is now made in TURKEY instead of ITALY. It has a cheaper finish, but is otherwise identical. I like my BERETTA 8000.

OK, I guess I have to put in another plug for a Hi Power.....and you don't have to drop $750 on a T-series. Just two weeks ago I found this on auctionarms:

PJK-9HP002.jpg

This is an FEG PJK-9HP, which is basically a HP clone. It was NIB with two 13 round mags for under $250. Heck, with the money saved you can buy lots of ammo....or maybe even another GUN :D

wrt the idea of a used Glock 19, Deanimator wrote:
I got one from Summit Gun Broker a couple of years ago. I'm very satisfied with it. I prefer the 2nd Generation guns since I don't like the rail or the finger grooves.

I don't care (much) about a rail, and am indifferent to the finger grooves but are there any internal changes? (And now watch me misspell) Metallalurgical?

With the CZ-75 you can also put a Kadet kit or the EAA 22 kit on it and shoot .22's out of your main carry to make your training as efficent as possible.

Also, want to plug EAA Tangfolio. Its a CZ75 for $100 less and lots of upper options to choose from.

You need to see what fits best. glocks are good guns but they don't like my hands. Rugers give you a lot of bang for your buck. Springfield XD another very good choice. But the S&W M&P has been making a lot of noise and with a $50 rebate and 2 free mags it is hard to pass up. I have owned all of the above and the only one I simply love to shoot in my m&p. It has done very well for me the past year. One other thing to look at is S&W and Springfield have some of the best costumer service dept. in the handgun industry. I just comes down to how they feel in your hands!

yhtomit,

Thanks, I hadn't caught the HP bug until about October. I knew that I wanted a shooter/clone rather than a real BHP. The auction had only been listed for 3 hours when I saw it....."buy-it-now" for $235! What's not to love about that!

go to the range, rent what feels good in your hand and shoot, shoot, shoot...i owned a glock 19, cost me 450 bucks new. liked it at first, but wasnt really a big shooter at the time. after going through a few all day classes with it, i felt like i needed something more comfortable to shoot. after alot of trial (and some good advise) i ended up w a sw m&p 9..couldnt be happier. picked it up online for 419 (plus shipping) and will someday get my $50 rebate and 2 more mags from sw....its a greta gun and a great deal, however YMMV so go see what works for you before you plunk down your hard earned loot on something that someone else likes

How about s&w m&p. I had one and loved it. I sold it because I needed something I could conceal easier (the hand grip on the m&p is bulky). Its a great shooter and they have a $50 rebate and 2 free mags until april. You could probably end up right around $400, a bargain for that gun. I ll get another one soon, but no mag safety on my next one.
