Why are two of the models manufactured by different companies?

Can the 45 ACP models magazine internals be switched out a standard 1911 magazine? The base maybe?

Any documented cases of accidental discharge or documented cases of material failure?


I will ask more as I think of them…..

A standard 1911 magazine will fit with some tweaking.

Here is a video on how to do it. I have seen people make the mod without any dremel or cutting. The protrusion that catches on the mag release just needs to be more prominent.

Ya they have a full supported chamber... Good videos if you watch them all you will see that these hi points can take an unbelievable amount of pounding before they pop.

The spot on the back of the slide is the piece that holds the firing pin spring in place. There is a recess around the extractor that lets you see a cartridge rim if the chamber is loaded. People can say what they want about Hi-Points, but when you get down to it, they work, and they are fairly accurate too. Also Hi-Points are approved for sale in California, so they have passed a severe drop test. I doubt accidental discharges are a possibility.

Hi Point pistols are a tool, not an heirloom. They are ugly and heavy but they have a proven track record and they work right out of the box...most of the time. Sometimes they require a break in period due to paint on the feed ramp and the somewhat unpolished insides but they will be reliable if you work with them and give them a chance.

The thing is that people have tried to destroy them with overcharged handloads, they've tried to shoot them apart, and they've sawed them in half and still had them replaced under warranty. Hi Point pistols are looked at by most as higher end cheap guns. No they're not winning a beauty pageant or any competitions but they are suitable for defense or plinking. The guns aren't some awesome and beautiful thing you'll hand down to your kids but they will do what they're supposed to for a long time as long as you're willing to fire them enough to get them broken in. If you get a lemon Hi Point will fix it.

They have a counterweight inside that helps it to be drop safe unless dropped basically directly onto the muzzle (at least that is how I understand it). They recommend cleaning every 500 to 800 rounds by spraying solvent and lube into the gun...full disassembly is not recommended for most users. They are also rated for +P ammunition.

IMO they're not a half bad knock around gun and alot of people who hate cheap guns look at the Hi Point as a decent low cost firearm.

Never, ever, never doubt that accidental discharges are a possibility. They always are a possibility...always.


I've had a C-9 for 13 years now. It is what it is....a very cheap firearm that anybody can afford. It also seems that the Hi-Points that are newer than mine can be pretty reliable. I can't seem to keep it running from mag to mag without at least one ftf, but for plinking it is a cheap way to have fun (something I don't do that much any more). I don't protect myself with my C-9, but there are many families relying on a Hi-Point for protection. For those who just can't afford anything more than a Hi-Point, this is a way to defend themselves. If Hi-Point weren't around, they would have been left with a rock.

My first hand gun was a JHP .45 and I still like it. My main carry gun is a S&W 469 9mm, but the .45 is my nightstand gun. It's heavy and ugly, but they work and work well. Mine hasn't jammed, FTF, FTE, zero problems so far.
1911 mags can be modded to fit, but they won't ever work in a 1911 again. I'm still looking for some cheap 1911 mags to test this theory, but I've seen a Youtube vid that shows it, FWIW. Possibly the same one linked above.

Anyhow, for what it cost me, I'm not complaining. My kids probably won't inherit it, but it's not worth selling, either. I'm $180 into with an extra magazine, might get half that in a sale. I figure I'll keep it til it breaks, whenever that happens, then send it to Hi Point for a replacement and more mags.

A lot of people say they are entry level guns for people who don't know much about guns. Yes and no. I had pretty decent experience with guns before I bought one. I wouldn't consider myself a newb when it comes to pistols, but a Hi Point was my first pistol.

At their price, every gun owner should have one. That way they can make informed decisions as to their worthiness.

No it does not have this extremely overrated feature. Second strike isn't necessary at all IMO.

In the case of a failure you should peform the necessary steps to clear a faulty round and not bother trying a few extra trigger pulls to try and get it to fire. In the event that a centerfire round doesn't go off in the first try I would assume it is no good. The extra second you waste pulling the trigger trying to get the round to fire rather than just racking the slide could cost you your life.
