Hidden Gun Storage (or other items)

Hey Mr Dove, thanks for starting this thread. I worry about my babies when I'm gone. I've spent some time thinking about this very thing, and couldn't come up with a really good idea, but I saw what I want to do in this thread. I've made some of my furniture, so a little modification will be easy. Thanks!

Something that I've considered but have not experimented with yet:

There is a child safety latch available at many stores with that kind of stuff that is magnetic. It is designed to lock drawers and cabinets and keep kids out. It requires a magnet to disengage the lock.

An invisible latch like this might be well placed on a hidden drawer or other hidden hiding place. If someone does go pulling on your hidden drawer or hidden door, it won't open without the magnet.

The unit is cheap and plastic, so it won't keep out someone who knows your secret but it might help deter someone who is just a little suspicious.

There are more advanced units available but they get much more expensive. There are big magnetic door locks that hold thousands of pounds but they are not cheap.

This thread is interesting... I've been thinking about the same thing. The one thing about starting a thread like this is if the wrong kind of person stumbles across it your really helping them out. After thinking about it a while, I decided that if I had a really good idea and was using it, I sure wouldn't put it out on a public forum like this. I think the whole key is to not keep all your eggs( guns:D ) in one place and be creative about camouflaging your hiding places. Travis hit the nail on the head, loose lips, sink ships:mad:

I can see this thread helping burglars in general because it might give them more ideas where to look for hidden guns, but I highly doubt you have to worry about a burglar showing up at your adress. People that worry about that really shouldn't be so paranoid.

As my esteemed colleague S O LABAN puts it ,loose lip DO sink ships. But I doubt if the smash and grab types are perusing The High Road looking for info. They get PLENTY of "education" in jail. Now,if the muggers started "shopping" by reading the anti gun letters to the editor in the Kansas City Red Star,well......

I have hidden handguns under dirty laundry, under the bottom shelf of a bookcase or chest of drawers, and in the freezer under some tv dinners, but that's as creative as I get. I have yet to cut out the middle of a book for a pistol, that might work.

I like the golf bag for long guns, though.
