I was at a 2 LGS Saturday in search of muzzleloader powder/primers and just to browse. One store had a large amount of 777 pellets which were on par with normal prices ($25-100). I checked out their smokeless powder selection and they didnt seem but $1-2 more than normal. Even the basics like 38, 5.56, 40cal didnt seem too high in price. $15 for 20rds of 5.56, $28-35 for 38 and $25-30 for 40cal. They didnt have the 777 loose powder I wanted at the store with "decent prices" so we went to another LGS that owns about 8 stores and they were asking $20 for tula 5.56 while the other had Hornady Frontier for the same price or a couple bucks cheaper. Federal and Tula 9mm is $40-50rds while the other store had it for about $25-30. When I went to the muzzleloader supplies they wanted $40-42 for pellets and $38 for loose 1lbs jugs. I couldnt believe the price jump compared to a store just 30min away. Walmart and Cabelas normally carry it for about $25-for loose and pellets. All their bullets were high priced too compared to Cabelas and the other store. On their facebook page someone mentioned them price gouging and they responded that they raised the prices due to the suppliers. Now wouldnt you think it would all come from the same suppliers for all the stores in the area? There is a part of me that says dont shop there anymore because I do kind of feel like I got screwed on the muzzleloader powder but no one else had it in stock. They are even selling 25rd boxes of cheap buckshot for $40-box and last week they had Browning 400rd 22 bricks for $100 and 1k rounds for $200. They did seem to bring them down this week but still, thats the highest I have ever seen 22lr even during the Obama stuff.

So whats the deal with these shops? Are they taking advantage of the situation or is it really the supplier gouging and then the stores have to make up for it?
