I was given this pistol in rough condtion. Bore is excellent. Serial # is
280,7XX. I can't access serial number websites from work. Is it okay to use high velocity .22 ammunition? I don't intend to shoot it much. Might be a truck gun.

    Thanks.

Thanks, Taurus. My dad had an early Colt pre-Woodsman that was recommended for standard velocity only. Looks like I'm good to go with high V ammo.

All High Standard instruction sheets say that both standard velocity and high velocity ammunition is OK. Unfortunately there are a number of cases where that turns out not to be true. Some design series have a history of frame cracking and some have a history of other problems related to high velocity ammunition and a weak driving spring. Others seem ot not have any history of problems. The Model H-B is the middle family. This in design series dependent and not serial number dependent.

Thanks, John. I don't intend to shoot this HB very much, but it's an interesting piece.

I would only use standard velocity ammo in it. That is all I will use in my Hi Standards.
