My neighbor came over this morning with a pistol he says he bought from a pawn shop in Minnesota in 1957 for $17. When he held it out to me it was in the leather holster that came with it and the butt appeared similar to a 1911, but it was a High Standard Model H-D Military with a serial number of 2697XX in pretty good condition (Except the barrel, chamber, and slide had not been cleaned in probably 40 years......) with no corrosion and little wear on any of the bluing. I was leaving when he came over so we didn't talk very long and he never told me if he was wanting to sell or just determine the value. When I got back home this afternoon I did some Google searching and discovered a lot of information about the gun and have theorized that it was manufactured in 1947 or 1948. Other than knowing the magazine feed lips can be fragile I know nothing about these but I know that there will be a wealth of information available here so let me have it!!!! I will talk to him tomorrow and see if he is interested in selling it so I may add another gun to my collection. :)

In spite of the name, the H-D Military was made as a commercial pistol. (Some were bought by the military, but as straight purchase, not made on a contract.)

A word of advice. If you want to field strip that pistol and you and the owner don't know how, please ask us or check on the net for info. If it is done wrong, the pistol can be seriously damaged and critical (and unavailable) parts broken.
