Historic firearm?????

    a buddy just got a highly engraved Remington model 8 rifle that has a presentation plaque on the side that says "Presented to Ernest Pardo, Chicago Il, 1919" We were wondering how we might find out who this guy was????? Dick....... P>S> i put the name in yahoo and ask.com and didn't get any matches....thanks....Dick

    Below the Manson-Nixon line in Virginia...
    First place to look would be Census Records. I don't know if the 1920 census records have been released yet, but the 1910 CRs may be.

    After that, it's time to actually head to Chicago and start research at the library, the historical society, the Sun-Times, etc., anything that might give you an insight into who this guy might have been.

    A check on military records might turn up something. 1919 was the time vets were returning from Europe and receiving various honors, parades, etc. Of course, something like a graduation gift is also a possibility.
