Poll by PopVox on the topic of "common sense gun control". From Greg Smiths newsletter. Cut and paste the links if they don't show up as active.

I ask that you especially voice your opinion on is MAIG's proposal:

the so called "Common Sense
Legislation to End Gun Violence". WE ARE GETTING OUR ASSES KICKED on
this one. I have sent out 20+ emails using this tool in the last 10
minutes, it is that easy. Please give it a shot.

Best Regards,
Greg

It will give you a chance to add a bit of a note to a canned preface that reads "I oppose common sense gun control because...
You can overwrite it or tack on a suffix:
you can't solve the problem of a suicidal madman by penalizing the law-abiding.

First time you need to put in some info. Nothing goes to Washington without the info, so put it in and get registered.

First link is to the MAIG support/oppose page. Second link is to an overview of gun bills. You can weigh in on any or all of them. Broad spectrum for offering opinions directly to congress.

Carpet bomb congress with e-mail. Make Dresden look like a marshmallow roast.

There were several anti-trafficking bills there. Care to speculate as to how many of them would actually affect the A.G.'s office?

Wow, talk about left wing bias. Here's what I wrote:
"I oppose Common Sense Legislation to End Gun Violence because..."

I take issue with the standard opening above. I oppose it, specifically because it's NOT common sense. Banning weapons based on cosmetic features makes no sense. Reducing magazines to 10 rounds will violate the provision in the Heller opinion that "commonly used" weapons are protected. Most semi-automatic pistols come standard with magazines of >10 round capacity.

Given the limited time and political capital, please spend your time on issues that, while making less of a political splash, will do more to improve safety. Please focus on a more comprehensive NICS system, so that existing background checks will be meaningful. Please focus on reversing the Reagan trend of deinstitutionalizing dangerously psychotic patients.

Focusing on further restrictions will require an overwhelming amount of political capital and will lead to years of litigation. The proposals above will be much easier to implement, will not raise Constitutional issues, and will actually reduce violence.

This is a left leaning site if I have ever seen one. I will play along, but I understand that there is an incredible bias on this. If you oppose the petition, it makes you sound like an idiot.

Not really. The reaction to this particular bill seems to be something of an anomaly. The dozen or more other currently pending anti-gun bills are all overwhelmingly opposed on this site. Not really sure why this particular one is different.

For example:
  • S.150 (Assault Weapon Ban) - 97% Opposed
  • S.174 (Ammunition Background Check) - 97% Opposed
  • S.33 (High Capacity Magazine Ban) - 98% Opposed
  • S.32 (Stop Online Ammunition Sales) - 98% Opposed

I am with Wooly. The question is biased and automatically makes people who oppose gun control to not have common sense.
