I was thinking about using my P7 as my carry/ home defense weapon. My question for other P7 owners out there is, how long do P7 magazines last when they are loaded for long period of times (spring and feed lip concerns)?

Any quality magazine will last a long, long, long time, even if kept loaded. We're talking many, many decades...

There is a video around somewhere that shows a P7 magazine getting run over by a truck and then having a cinder block dropped on it from 10 feet. After this, they pick up the mag, throw it in the gun, and shoot it. Yes, use some Eezox on it occasionally, and that mag will last a LONG time.

It'll last for many several years if properly maintained. If you're concerned about springs, grab a couple extra from brownells (about 5 to 7 bucks when I bought them IIRC).

One more expensive option would be to buy many magazines. Obviously not too feasable.

Before I bought my P7 I had the same concerns you do. After looking into it though, I realized that there may not be a better made magazine than the ones from the P7 series. Not only are they especailly rugged all around they are easy to take apart and replace the springs which Wolff sells.

BTW: Keeping the magazine loaded wont wear a spring, loading it and unloading it a lot is what kills them.

granted they are a bit more expensive than a 1911 mag, but nothing close to a Sig 210 mag (if you can find them)

i buy them in groups of 5, when i can find an acceptable price...it's funny that the price of PSP mags have surpassed M8 mags

I have bought 2 very well used P7M8 mags in a gun store for about $ 20 ea., couldn't pass it up. Both work as well as any new mags. The one difference is that HK doesn't date stamp mags. anymore.

HK tends to over engineer. That's why I keep buying HKs.

this is true, my original PSP mags that i used as duty mags 25+ years ago only show finish wear.

i think i paid $20 each when they were new, but then i only paid $400 for the gun...and got upset when they introduced the M8 for $358 and the M13 for $378

Some of mine are close to 20 years old, maybe more. They work fine.

Probably not any sort of HK magic, single stacks just are inherently reliable if made using quality materials.

Your trigger finger will be burned to a cinder before you ever wear out a P7 mag.

Literally, just go to the range with a loaded stack of magazines and have at it until your trigger finger is burned.

Takes about 5-6 mags for me before it becomes unbearable.

Which is why it is necessary to own at least TWO P-7s, if not three. One to shoot, while the other cools.
