I know my HK has polygonal rifling in the barrel, should I stay away from lead bullets like a Glock?

Yup, lead bullets in any polygonal rifling are a no-no.

H&K USP Compact 45 and lead

I've fired thousands of 200 gr. SWC Laser Cast lead bullets in my H&K compact. Not sure of the exact number, it's more than 5k and less than 10k. Laser Cast bullets are pretty hard, I've had no leading problems and it feeds them great.
