HK USP Compact .45

My wife picked out a .45 USP Compact to replace the P220 we normally keep for a house gun. She had trouble manipulating the slide release and controls on the P220 and felt the USP Compact was much more ergonomic for her. She also liked the USP Tactical and a .45 GAP Glock. She shoots the P220 fairlly well and I am concerned about the USP Compact having more felt recoil. Can anyone comment on their experience with the USP .45 Compact? Thanks. PS No where around here to try one out so we have to make a purchase without a test fire.

The Sigs have a high bore axis. I know from firing the .40 S&W from different guns that the Sig has more felt recoil because of it. This includes polymer and all metal guns.
So I do not see how it is possible for the H&K to have more felt recoil than a Sig, even with the polymer frame.

I find the USP .45 Compact to be very nice to shoot. But, felt recoil is subjective, so your opinion may vary. My USP was always 100% reliable and extremely accurate. The USP .45 Compact is a great gun.

I owned one for a few years. I can't compare it to your sig but the HK compact has a plastic buffer of sorts on the slide return spring. It soaks up a lot of the shock. Its still a .45 but it is very manageable and its easy to get a second shot off that is accurate. The grip length lets you get plenty of leverage on it and you can get a finger shelf for the mag bottom that is very handy for keeping the pistol under control. Mine was as accurate as a Kimber Custom that I had at the same time. I liked shooting the HK more than any of my other .45's.

Its managable, I own a .45 compact USP stainless, and absolutly love it everytime I handle it (everyday).

My experience with the compact USP in 45ACP has been really exceptional! I have had no failures with it, unless induced with dummy ammo. I think it fits my had like a glove especially with the extended floor plates. Accuracy it is just as accurate as the fullsize USP. It carries well in a MS Versa Max II. I wish HK had followed through with the rumored 10rd mags!

I have a USP45C-V1 with the stainless slide. It is a relatively soft shooter, as the double captive recoil spring and buffer seem to do their job pretty well, quick follow-up shots are easy to master. My experience echos those above - very reliable, accurate, good ergos (for me), and the trigger has smoothed out nicely with use. I like the fact that it can be carried cocked & locked, or put on 'safe' via a 1911-style safety with a round in the tube and is +P rated. Enjoy!

The USP compact 45 is a nice gun. It has a fair recoil but it's not that bad. I started shooting the .40. Then I shot 9mm and .45. The USP-compact 45 was a bit of a surprise but after 50 rounds or so, you get use to it. It shoots great. I found that other .45 or full size guns absorb the recoil better.

My favorite pistols are my two 1911s and my...USP Compact 45. Solid, flawless, very manageable recoil...my experience.
