Pros/Cons compared to the .40 version?

I previously owned a .40 Compact and liked it alot. Originally wanted the full sized USP in .45 but grip was overly large for my hand. .45 Compact wasn't available back then. Handled examples of both compact calibers the other day and the .45 appeared to be about the same frame size & feel. It fit my hand perfectly.

Please, no flames on HK design or price (I'm already a believer). Just want to know if the .45 ACP Compact is as good or better than the .40 S&W version.

Also: What's the market price in your area New/Used?

Can't help you compare a .45 to a .40. I had the .45c for a while. Sweet shooter, completely reliable, light recoil and pointed well. I sold it because I couldn't CCW it without printing. It was one of my favorite .45's, but useless because of that.
Sold it in a face to face in San Jose for $600. Bought it on the internet for $525.

I had both, the Compact 40 first, the Compact 45 second. I liked the 45 better, and I traded the 40 to get it. In my hand the 45 had a little heavier push in the recoil, but a little less flip in the muzzle. The 45 was out of the box more accurate as well; not by much really, but enough to notice. Dimensionally the 45 is a little bigger, but I liked it that way, especially the grip. The 40 gets you a couple more rounds in the mag, but that's not a big concern for me. I think you'd be well served, and quite happy with the Compact 45.

I love my USP compact .45, I have examined the 9mm, the .40 and the .45 in close detail, and came away impressed with the .45 version. (I have yet to inspect the 357SIG model.)
The others didn't impress me at all.
The feed ramp/barrel and their relation to the magazine left something to be desired, but the .45 models were of sufficient size, proportion, and in relation to each other.
Just looking at the designs, I could see a possible jamming problem in the 9mm models.
The .40 was better, but not nearly as good as the .45
Also, the .45 barrel impresses me.
The 9mm never did.
The barrel in my .45 is harder than woodpecker lips, machined perfectly, and the flats are flat.
I can't say enough good things about the .45 compact USP pistol from H&K.

I'm quite happy with mine. It has been utterly reliable and the ergonomics are good for my hand. YMMV. I have not had a problem with printing. I carry it in a Milt Sparks Watch Six, a very thin IWB holster. I also use the flush fit magazine for carry.

The 45 usp compact is on my radar screen for a gun purchase later in the year, I especially like the light weight and overall diminsions of the gun. So I am reading this thread with interest in the comments from those who have one or have had one. I really want a 1911 for CCW but can't really make up my mind yet on what I want...decisions,decisions..

Thanks to all posters. Exactly the type of feedback I'm looking for. I could kick me for letting the .40 go and was working up a replacement jones when I saw the .45 version.

I've got both. Not a big difference between the two. Both have the same fair single-action trigger and the lousy double-action trigger. Unfortunately, the soft trigger-bar thingy makes it hard to get a really good trigger break.

Both are reliable. The grip is just a bit too big. Both have a bit too much muzzle flip.

Personally, I prefer my Kimber Compacts to the USPc. YMMV.

I like mine a lot. Has all the great qualities mentioned above. Da trigger is a tad heavy, but smooth enough, SA is sweetness & light.

My view...

I got a HK USPC .45 a few months ago. At first I really did not like it, it seemed to have a horrible trigger in DA and even worse recoil characteristics.

Ok, put more rounds through it, started feeling more comfortable with it, but I was still not sure ....

A friend of mine shot it one day, he was making little 1" groups with it at 15 yards. Shot it much nicer then his SAA loaded that he had with him.

Allright, I now know it was me ... I start taking a more positive wrist lock and started working on not flinching ... the recoil is so different from my Colt Commander and 10mm ... more push, less flip ... I am not sure, but I actually think I was over compensating for the recoil. I have a habit of being recoil sensitive .... yes I am a big girly man.

So, I have started to really like, not love, the HK. I do love the features of the gun, SA/DA Con1 capable, Decocker, great ergonomic feel. Very easy to strip and clean. I am going to put the ambi lever on next week. I have read where it is easy to do, and am going to give it a try.

If anyone knows of a good deal on a stainless USP Compact 40 let me know. I went to a large sporting goods store yesterday and they were going for $769.00. I am pretty sure I can do better than that. If not, then I'll just put the HK on the back burner for a while....

The USP .45 C is a great gun. It is my home defense pistol. It has been 100% reliable and is amazingly accurate. My only complaint is that it's just a bit big for summer CCW, IMO.

not cheap but seems to be worth what i paid for it ...
