I tried the S&W M&P a number of years ago and didn't realy care all that much for the grip ergonomics. In my smaller size hand it felt a bit too wide, somewhat like the Medium grip size components on the HK VP9. When I switched them out for the Small size parts I was much more comfortable with the grip shape and dimensions. It kind of reminded me of my Browning Hi-Power with a full set of Pachmayrs on it.

OP,

One other consideration is the warranties. Both are reliable, but in the event that you do have an issue HK's website states their warranty covers the original purchaser only, so you may not be covered. They do talk about honoring it for donees, however they define that. I don't know how strict HK is about this. Buying a new M&P gives you a lifetime warranty.

Its an HK.. never even heard of one needing warranty work... :)

on a serious note... I will preface by stating I have not owned a v2.0 M&P. Owned a 1.0 years ago but it always felt cheap to me even after an Apex/FSS upgrade... Of it went...

Bought a VP9 when they first came out, after a couple range sessions, I thought it would replace all my "plastic fantastics" (i.e. Glocks) However, I took it to a USPSA Match (Production) and found out quickly that my grip was interfering with the slide stop. So off it went too.

Both quality proven pistols, when talking about ergonimic is difficult to please everyone, size finger length etc..
MP had to clean some quirks at the accuracy dept to reach the actual level.
VP9 came to me when those 4 mags & the intro price, so I bite it.
As above stated for others, had to adjust to be skillful with the deutch mag release.
In my case fit great, and impressed me how well print on target at 15 or 25 yards which are my regular practice for the Steel Challenge aspirations.
Weight, size and balance make it aim naturally.
Raised with a CZ pistols tucked on my diapers, nevertheless honestly, the overall quality of the VP is notch above of the strikefire cz's.
I don't dare to state that for MP2.0 pistols, very few ranges trips yet.
Therefore, the kraut cast my vote for now.

Ah, but have you tried the 2.0 with the small grip insert? The 2.0 grip truly has to be experienced -- it's one of the substantial upgrades with the 2.0. Also, the 2.0 triggers are light-years better than those of the 1.0. Accuracy improved as well. (Disclaimer: not paid shill for S&W, just a guy who's been forced to use one since 2008)

No, I have not as yet checked out the 2.0 grip small insert upgrade. Will give it a try the next time I come across one. As for now I will just have to enjoy my VP9 and look forward to doing my own comparison with the M&P 2.0.

Well... The S&W all got sold out.

So I decided to pick up the VP9 as I was 50/50 and liked both equally, but for different reasons.

We'll see how it goes.

If it sucks, I'll sell it during the election pandemonium and buy an M&P when things calm.

Whichever you shoot best after having rented (or borrowed) both and shot at least a box through each cuz our opinions don’t mean much if you can’t shoot it comfortably and well.

My old friend Steve was a HK man, he really loved them. He also carried a Glock 19 from time to time. When the VP9 first came out, he bought one, and I got to shoot it. I liked it but wasn’t ready to go out and pay just over $600 for one.
After about two months Steve sold his VP9. He said that he just wasn’t impressed with it and would just stay with his regular HK’s. He said the VP9 was just a Glock with lipstick.
I just picked up a 17 round mag for my VP9. CDNN had them on sale for $39.

VP9 vote here.
I like the paddle mag release.
Currently run a P30L but will add a VP9.

Was not going to buy a VP9 since that indicator on the back annoys the crap outta me.
See they make a plate to do away with it.
