It's now possible to trap feral swine and hunt them at night with proper permits, but maybe not on Federal gamelands.

"WILD BOAR SEASONS
Daily limit 1; Possession limit 1; Season limit 2
In the following counties: Cherokee, Clay, Graham, Jackson,
Macon, Swain
Sept. 12, 2011 – Sept. 30, 2011
In the other 94 counties of the state, feral hogs are not considered
to be wild boars.
On Oct. 1, 2011, state law will no longer
recognize wild boar. Therefore all wild swine (hogs) in the state,
including those in the six western most counties, will be feral
swine. After Sept. 30, 2011, feral swine will have no closed
season, no bag limits and are subject to the manner of taking
restrictions listed on pages 42 and 43. See page 62 for additional
restrictions for taking feral swine (hogs) on game lands.
During the open deer archery season, muzzleloader season, gun
season and any small game season, ONLY weapons legal for
that season may be used to take wild boar."
Since the publication goes from Aug. 2011 to July 31, 2012, what appears to be contradictory above becomes clearer. Essentially, now all boar are considered feral, and have no bag limits.

"Hunting Seasons
Unless otherwise indicated for a particular game land, game animal
and game bird seasons are the same as the private land surrounding
the game land. For animals with no closed season (ground hogs,
skunk, coyote, feral hogs, armadillo, etc.) hunting is allowed
ONLY when another game animal or game bird is in season."
I haven't seen any rules limiting game lands to shotgun, but don't quote me.
I have a .44 lever gun I'm dying to try out on wild hogs.
