HELLO to all. Has anyone got some info to share on Hog hunting in NC? I am hoping for info about Game Lands avail to hunt Hogs.

don't show up in the mountain game lands as hogs are darn near just not around. Some areas have some but more than likely found on private property.

I see them in the WNC mountains all the time, about can't drive down the road without hittng one.

Can't be, can't, unless you were also born a south florida. Old swamp rat now 14 years up here.. There was a story in the news yesterday that did say Polk county has more than it's fair amount of piggies running around and they my make then fair game year round over this way.
You must be around blairsville or blue ridge way. May dad had a place for some years just out side Young harris, thants as close he wanted to get back to his tennesse hillbilly background. hehe

I'll agree, they are concentrated in pockets around the mountain areas. Out east they are everywhere though. You can stop by farms and talk to the owners as I'm sure they'd love to have a RESPONSIBLE hunter take out some hogs. P.S. the laws are changing as of october 1st all areas of the state now consider hogs feral. used to anything west of asheville or so was considered "wild" and had a season with tags and whatnot, but not anymore.

There are a few packs of them about 2 miles west of me, and I have never seen one at all here... I've seen a bunch up around robbinsville n.c. on the cherohala skyway, but not really anywhere else. They seem to stay put in little areas here and not really move out of them much. (a hunter who's bow-hunting my farm this year said he saw some pics of them in my swamp, but I haven't seen the pics yet)

Good luck, and if I were you I'd go east and stay in a cheap motel while hunting, or just camp... Might do well to pick a county and then call the cooperative extension office (folks who help farmers) and try to get some leads and phone numbers that way. Hunting public land is a drag, but a few phone calls with good manners will get you a long way.

Can anyone tell me anything about hog huntin around Ft Bragg or Cumberland County. I would like to hunt them. And also can you use a Rifle on Game Lands Or is it just shotgun

Page 45 of this year's hunting regulations give the contact addresses and numbers for Federal game lands.

It's now possible to trap feral swine and hunt them at night with proper permits, but maybe not on Federal gamelands.

"WILD BOAR SEASONS
Daily limit 1; Possession limit 1; Season limit 2
In the following counties: Cherokee, Clay, Graham, Jackson,
Macon, Swain
Sept. 12, 2011 – Sept. 30, 2011
In the other 94 counties of the state, feral hogs are not considered
to be wild boars. On Oct. 1, 2011, state law will no longer
recognize wild boar. Therefore all wild swine (hogs) in the state,
including those in the six western most counties, will be feral
swine. After Sept. 30, 2011, feral swine will have no closed
season, no bag limits and are subject to the manner of taking
restrictions listed on pages 42 and 43. See page 62 for additional
restrictions for taking feral swine (hogs) on game lands.

During the open deer archery season, muzzleloader season, gun
season and any small game season, ONLY weapons legal for
that season may be used to take wild boar."

Since the publication goes from Aug. 2011 to July 31, 2012, what appears to be contradictory above becomes clearer. Essentially, now all boar are considered feral, and have no bag limits.

p.62
"Hunting Seasons
Unless otherwise indicated for a particular game land, game animal
and game bird seasons are the same as the private land surrounding
the game land. For animals with no closed season (ground hogs,
skunk, coyote, feral hogs, armadillo, etc.) hunting is allowed
ONLY when another game animal or game bird is in season."

I haven't seen any rules limiting game lands to shotgun, but don't quote me.

I have a .44 lever gun I'm dying to try out on wild hogs.

always been told the hog hunting is decent around seymour- johnson air force base. i know rocky mount has some. and ive been told the area of the croatan national forest near great lake has some.

lets of areas in western NC have them. try calling your local game warden and ask if he knows of any farmers having issues with them then ask for contact information to get permission to hunt them.

Used to see some big boars in Graham County when we grouse hunted near Tapoco in the Nantahala N.F. There are a few in Madison and Haywood Co. but they are sparse. The counties around the Great Smokies and and south bordering Tn. would be your best bet in the western part of the state. I here there are a good number of pigs in the low country swamps but haven't hunt there.

I hunt the Croatan National Forest and its got a good number of hogs in it.They are spread from highway 24 in carteret to highway 17 in jones county. The woods are big timber blocks with alot of swamps and pocosins, which make great hog habitat. You can only hunt the hogs when there is a open season for another animal, meaning we can hunt from the start of dove season to the end of rabbit season and then again once turkey season opens.Private land is open all year and now we can hunt them at night which is cool.I am planning on putting 2 new dogs on the ground 2/11/12 to see what we can do,will post and let yall know how it goes.

Well the wind was blowing 30plus on saturday so we did not turn the hounds out.We are planning another hunt for 2/18/12 and maybe mother nature will let us "git r done".
