Now that's a big trap, good catch. Now the fun begins. Invite the neighbors over and give all of them a knife.

I am not the OP but whenever I have come across a hog(s) in the trap I shoot them in the head with the 12 gauge loaded with #4 shot.
I do this to keep a centerfire deer cartridge from exiting and possibly coming back my way do to the heavy duty steel that makes up the trap.
And contrary to the speech that bird shot is for birds, etc. I can tell you at a distance of 3 feet they drop dead as a hammer after being shot.

We have trapped way to many hogs in the past. They can be a major pain. We always just shot them with a 22 caliber pistol. They drop in their tracks when shot in the head.

Can I ask how.you kill them once you find them in hour trap?

We usually shoot them with a .22 magnum.

What kind of traps?

They are light weight portable traps 8' long x 4' high x 34" wide. They're made from angle iron, cattle panels and hog panels. The bottom and top are hog panels. We stake them down with two T posts.

Thanks for the suggestion Heeler: It's dangerous to shoot a hog in a trap, especially with a high-power rifle.

I've shot 'em in the head with everything from a .22 mini revolver to a .45 colt to put 'em down. Works every time. I usually just use my pocket concealed carry, usually a 9x19 or .38 special, but have used my also gun, the .22LR mini revolver.

Here's a pic of my trap with a hog's butt passing it in front of my game camera. :D Typical store bought galvanized hog trap. Ran me about 300 bucks. I coulda probably built one cheaper, but I'm lazy and I like the galvanize.

I caught a few about that time period, but that one wasn't in the trap when I checked the SD card in the camera. It's situated on a hog highway into a big brushy mott. I figured I'd get pix of 'em coming and going. I was hoping to get a pic of one going into the trap, but didn't. Flash might scare 'em, I was thinkin'. It does flash infrared, too, haven't tried that.
