F26EA173-3CC3-4C8A-AC05-44524C375BFC.jpeg I carry my Agency Glock in a Safariland ALS holster.
It’s retention provides security if I am involved in a scuffle.
The retention of the holster is the same as the uniformed duty holster I used for many years and the same as my tactical holster so I can capitalize on years of muscle memory.
I find it to be very secure and reasonably concealable.

I find it to be a good concealable option that can work with a tucked in dress shirt.

I have used the Bianchi Carry Lock Holster too as it gives me good weapon retention/security.

Tough enough to last a very long time even carried daily.

I never liked shoulder holsters from a weapon retention standpoint and they are difficult to reholster quickly one handed.
They have their place however.

It allows tucking in a shirt, it is very concealable, and it has virtually no footprint.
It is impossible to reholster one handed however and offers no retention security from a grab in a fight.

The best concealment holster I have found for comfort and concealability is the Mitch Rosen CLP Clipper holster.
It is an inside the waistband holster that is comfortable and conceals the pistol well.
It is easy on and off because it is secured by a heavy duty clip.
It allows for one handed reholstering but has not much in the way of retention 5FD17B54-3A16-452D-A893-E4676D29FBE8.png B4D2213B-A9E7-44DA-8585-70F3991E9628.png 3AD96496-17F6-4432-A0C1-2A0CDE9C30B4.jpeg

My question is what holster is comfortable, concealable (IWB preferably), allows for one handed reholstering, and has some sort of weapon retention security?

Any good options out there I can try?

The N82 Pro is very comfortable. Its a hybrid single clip and retention is what I would call active. The shell is molded in such a way that you must twist the gun slightly to draw. The backing extends behind the entire profile of the gun including the grip. This makes getting a full grip on the gun a little awkward which might be a no-go for some people. The plus is that the grip will not rub against your skin and makes carrying without an undershirt very comfortable.

I won't carry any holster without some form of active retention. It annoys me that, even on their websites, many holster maker don't make it clear if a holster has an active retention device. Yes, some, like a thumb strap, are obvious. However, many are not as obvious.

I have tried passive retention and I am just not comfortable with that approach. I am not saying others are wrong, just that I don't like it for me.

Like the OP, I frequently use a Safariland ALS. I also like the Blackhawk Serpa (Yes, I am very aware that many do not like that particular holster design. in fact I purchased the Safariland because I was taking a course where the Serpe was forbidden.

Can you give an example of a holster or holster maker where it isn't clear whether the holster has active or passive retention?

None come to mind. I know I was looking at one this past weekend and wasn't able to decide if it was an active retention holster. I put it out of mind because I was not able to tell. Put out of mind means, quite literally, just that. I don't remember what it was.

Besides, rather frankly, even if I could think of an example I wouldn't say it in public. If I were to, I suspect that some sort would get all self righteous about "reading comprehension" and zero in on some obscure trade word that I may have missed or misunderstood.

I was looking at something playing a mental "if I were to get another 9x19." As I said, I really don't remember what I was looking at or for.

I ask because most holsters I've seen, and I'm a serial holster "window shopper", have been fairly easy to tell if they have active retention.

Most holsters are pretty obvious with a button or lever, or a thumb break. The only "semi-oddball" ones are like the Carry Lock shown above, but once you've seen one, and understand it, they are also very easy to identify.

The typical baseline for a concealment holster is no active retention. For the most part, it just isn't needed.

For field and duty holsters, the baseline is probably some form of retention, and most of those should be quite obvious.

There are very few IWB holsters with retention devices. I know there are a couple, but the only one I can think of right now is the MacDaniel II from Andrews Custom Leather.

I have found the Safariland ALS holsters among the best law enforcement holster I've ever used. 6365 Level III with the rotating hood for uniform carry and the 6378 paddle for non-uniform concealment. Great product.

Also, as the OP notes, the Kramer IWB #3 in horsehide in probably the most durable, long-lasting and reliable IWBs ever produced. I still have one for a Glock 19/23 I've used since 1994 ...

Uncle Mikes makes some Kydex ones that you have to pull away from the body as you start to draw. You'd never know it from looking at the holster. I have one for riding ATV's, as it holds my 1911 in, but it is not the quickest holster out there.

I have come to swear by Vedder holsters.

Especially the light tuck.

Had I discovered it years ago I would not have an entire tote bucket full of unused holsters.

I like the thin kydex, single clip (easy on/off) that holds tight to my 1.5" belt, no sliding holds cant angle. Adjustable ride height and cant as well as adjustable retention that holds the gun securely yet draws easy.

I find most 2 clip "wing" holsters comfortable but ultimately too big in my pants, loop style holsters tend to not hold my cant angle correctly and I'm constantly needing to adjust.

I carry at right about 2 o'clock in front of the hip over the pocket and carry a 229 or Glock 19X just fine under a tshirt with minimal printing.
