Holster scratched finish on my S&W M&P 45 -- what to do???

Hmmmmm .... where to begin?

1) Leather isn't going to scratch the finish of a S&W M&P.
2) The slide on an M&P isn't blued, it's black oxide coated.
3) The slide on an M&P isn't aluminum, it's steel.

4) Tenifer isn't a coating, it's a salt nitriding process.
5) Melonite isn't a coating, it's a salt nitriding process.
6) Melonite and Tenifer differ mainly in how the nitriding process is performed; Tennifer uses cyanide compounds that the EPA won't allow in the USA. Melonite performs the same process cyanide free.

7) Tenifer won't "wear off" it's inside the metal. Melonite won't either, for the same reason.
8) Melonite isn't just 'nearly as good as' Tennifer and it's not black. Aside from the process used they are identical. Both are clear and both are within the steel.

Get a silicone cloth from your local gun store, bring it home, and use it on the scratch.

That'll Buff Out!

...because, as the poster pointed out above, the scratch isn't in the finish, it would have to be an actual gouge in the stainless, which would make that leather from the meanest cow on the planet!

Its an M&P move on, if that little mark has made you this upset then dont ever carry it, you will get holster wear mo matter what finnish you have and there aint a damn thing you can do about it.
If this bugs you so much you are not gonna want to carry for there will be more little scracthes they are like tattoo's for you gun, each one will have a different story to go with it.

If you wear your firearm every day, it will look like a DOG. So buy a dog to start with or get comfortable with fading beauty.

Darn right! And I have three Simply Rugged pancakes and I've never seen anything on 'em that would scratch the finish of a gun anyway. Just carry the darn thing and shoot the hell out of it while enjoying the finish wear, or stick it in the safe.

If it bugs you too much, simply pay a couple hundred to get it refinished with something tougher. But like the rest have said, if you carry on a regular basis then the gun is going to have some holster wear.
