Holster wear on guns

AFAIK, it is the tiny particles of grit, that impregnate themselves in the holster material, that actually do the bulk of the wearing. Which material is more likely to hold those particles? I'm guessing leather? However, I like the look of properly located wear.

They aren't "holster-wears", they are Beauty Marks!

:uhoh: A woman can have a huge mole on her face, or she can have a beauty mark.

It is all how you look at it - as beauty is in the eye of the beholder!

As for nylon vs. leather, I just obtained some real nice leather for my 45 and I don't mind that the gun is a perfect fit and that some of the blueing is wearing off. It goes with the territory! If I minded, I would leave my gun home, in a safe. I have had nylon in the past (as in Uncle Mikes, EVERYTHING). I think the leather may wear blueing a bit more.

Worn bluing on a well oiled and maintained weapon is a mark of excellence and proficiency. Safe queens shouldn't be in a holster to start with.

Holster wear is going to happen. If you are concerned about it, you can get a stainless carry piece, or you can put a coating of hard chrome or molly-resin or a similar project on your favorite concealed-carry firearm so that you won't have to worry about it.

A nylon holster without a lining will wear finishes faster than a fitted leather holster. This is not only because the nylon holsters have a "generic" fit (i.e., made for guns of the same general size but not molded to the contours of your gun), but also because the material is more abrasive. One of the few exceptions to this is the Bianchi "Accumold" line, but they are made for relatively few handguns and are more suitable for open/police duty than concealed carry. Even those with a lining (what some wag here called "cloth-and-sponge pouches) suffer from a loose fit.

If you handle, carry, shoot and practice holster draws enough with any handgun, your finish will get worn, to some degree. It is unrealistic to think it will stay in pristine condition forever.

I've never once worried about the finish on my gun. If you beat it up you can always get it refinished.

I know for a fact that there are people who know they should be carrying every day and don't because of this very issue. They care more about how their gun looks than about the purpose that it was built.

MY XDSC40 LOOK WELL WORN but then again i were it 18+ hr a day for over 2 years now, she might not look pretty anymore but she is a working girl and she works just fine

PS: leather holster and it looks rough also

If you're carrying a gun too valuable to get any wear on, buy a new gun and put the safe queen in the safe (nothing wrong with having a few "purdy guns" that don't get a lot of use).

A pristine pistol kinda reminds me of a mountain bike with no scratches or dirt on it ... it stays pristine because its not used.

Oh and +100 on what Justin said about nylon holsters being garbage.
