Home defense scenario

What makes you think this "scenario" is something you need to think about?
Just watch the news. Gang activity is real in this area. Gangs from Memphis are very active in the Jackson TN and Humboldt TN area and they are active in the towns near me. Last year a person was killed in thier back yard by multiple attacker who exited a vehicle, shot him, robbed him and left.
The point of this is not how likely it is to happen, the point is to explore this legal aspects IF it did.

Hypotheticais, especially elaborate ones, are of limited value. One can construct a hypothetical to lead to whatever sorts of conclusions you want. And a small change in assumed facts can result in very different legal consequences.

The place to start is understanding the law related to the use of force. This thread might be a good place to start.

Three things to keep in mind:

  1. Intentionally threatening, hurting, or killing another human is, prima facie (on its face), wrong. The question will be whether the use of lethal force can be justified according to the applicable legal standards under the circumstances.

  2. It will be up to you to be able to articulate why you concluded that the use of lethal force was necessary to prevent imminent death or grave bodily injury to an innocent and to offer evidence supporting your reasoning.

  3. Your conduct will be judged based on a “reasonable person” basis.

In this Walter Mitty fantasy the bad guys probably aren't wearing body armor but in real life they might be. And you're gonna go out to confront them in the yard you definitely better be armored.

I believe there was a suggestion that a topic started in general handguns be moved to legal because discussion of the castle doctrine had arisen. Those discussions were not relevant to the OP there, so that thread was discontinued. This thread was then started with a hypothetical that resembled an action movie screenplay, but had little relevance to life as most of us know it. A discussion of tactics and probability then ensued, which moved us away from legal considerations.

Because we try to avoid fantasy and stick to legal discussions of general usefulness here, I am closing. This topic may be appropriate in some other area, but it is not the stuff of the legal section.
