Home invasion foiled

Rest assured that if I had the disposable income, I'd place little surveillance cameras around my perimeter. It sure couldn't hurt.

Revamp your definition of "disposable" and set em up. Everybody's got a hundred bucks they can eat without for a week, and it doesn't take much more than that for a basic setup. Bear in mind, you're typing on your monitoring and recording center while we speak, so that's already covered.

A couple of cheap cameras go a long way in the peace of mind business.

omg that's great. I bet those mexicans were using airsoft or replicas. Doesn't make sense that they wouldn't return fire. They looked to be heavily armed.

they carry guns into a robbery hoping your not armed. they want easy marks, not prepared fighters. Good for this guy. Though, I would have made sure to put more rounds down range in hopes of keeping one for questioning

There would be no reason to publish an unedited video of a BMW sitting in the drive for five to ten minutes while the four perps were off camera checking windows and doors. It's not as dramatic, and viewers would lose interest before the pay-off of the four criminals running away.

**Ding Ding Ding.**

Speaking as a guy with a lot of $ worth of video and audio editing equipment in my home, where I work, all day, every day I can't put much stock into any video without running timecode. And I certainly wouldn't want to evaluate the actions of someone in a potentially life-or-death situation from it.

News stations are editing for news, for bervity, for action, for drama. NOT for learning. Video editing is probably one of the most manipulatable disciplines. So take the video with a grain of salt.

Also, speaking as someone who works out of his home with his wife in a legal business where there is a lot of high-dollar merchandise in my home, I have been working out a video surveillance system for my home.

This video is of no help to me in making any tactical assesments other than it was a good thing the homeowner had video. Unfortunately, in some jurisdictions it could be a good thing for his prosecutors he had video too.

Video just reminds all of us that we have to be vigilant and act within the law to protect ourselves and our families. What starts out as a life saver can be our undoing if things go wrong.

I remember reading that most home invasions take place between 10:00am and 3:00pm.

I think you are confusing home invasion with burglary. There is a big difference between the two offenses.

So you expect us to believe that the four criminals slipped out of the car, did a sneak and peak around the house, then got back in the car and bailed out in attack mode? What for? Dramatic video? It's pretty obvious these guys drove up, bailed out of the car and approached the house.

Unfortunately, in some jurisdictions it could be a good thing for his prosecutors he had video too.

It's a good thing for the prosecutors in all jurisdictions, unless you are suggesting that someone who may break the law shouldn't have video evidence of it. Seems to me it's a double edged sword.

I can think of a couple other possibilities, no interest in talking about them because I don't feel like posting my setup on the internet. But, the scenario of "being home and being prepared" isn't exceedingly implausible to me, and I'm sure as heck not dealing drugs, or engaged in other nefarious activities.

How do you get anything else done if you are standing guard mount all day? This guy was prepared for an attack, someone in the house was armed and ready to instantly respond. No one's reaction time is that fast that they could have been shooting at the bad guys that quickly if they were involved with other things and had to respond from a cold start.

No, I'm just expecting us to NOT trust some video we see on the internet/news enough to make assessments about what the HO did right or wrong (exactly as I said).

From this video, can we tell:

How long the BGs were actually out of the car?
Did they make it inside the house?
How long were they in the house?
(if we think this video actually answers either of these questions, I've got some video of a bridge I'd like to sell someone).

Did they just make it to the door of the house and the HO opened fire before they were inside?
Was it one homeowner shooting at them or two different people?
Can you tell from the video if it was the good guy or BGs who shot the neighbor's house?
